A breeze had already risen , and the frenzy of the river above the wall had calmed. the evening was painting itself in oranges and pink, and a rare few gooses where piercing the heavens. it was soon to be night , and the november winds were as biting as ice. They would bend the last few white flowers on the floor, picking up the aroma of grass and fallen leaves. Kyle quietly waved his finger trough the grass. It was thin and soaked in water droplet. the boy would avoid watching the bird. His chirpings had stopped a few minutes ago. There wasnt anything left for Mary to do. But he couldnt bring himself to tell her, to see the devastation it would surely bring to his friend. And overall , he couldnt begin to explain, even to himself, how he heard the animal's heartbeat drop.

The blond girl suddently laid her hand on the boy's one. And when he raised his gaze to meet with her icy blue eyes , he understood , he read and deciphered trough her frowned brows and thin smile. She knew from the very start. Since she saw him drop from his nest on the oak tree , and cupped his bruised little body in her warm hands. Mary had known death would strike . A veil had covered Kyle's heart, making it hard to find the words , he simply gave a simple nod, before standing up.

Together they walked hand in hand to the meadow's oldest resident , an apple tree whom the two friends would always climb together as kids; laughing and guessing who would be the first to grab a fruit from its branches. The passage of time and the wind had made it crooked and now it was offering its comforting shadow. With his bare hands , Kyle dug a hole in the fresh soil , getting dirt over his sleeves and nails. He made sure the hole was deep enough so that a wild animal wouldn't smell the carcass , but shallow enough to allow him to fly away and meet the stars above.

As she was laying the small robin bird down , a sad chuckle escaped Mary's mouth , making her take a step backward and covering her face. Kyle hurriedly enveloped her with his arm , while she laid her head against his shoulder , and instantly exploded in tears. He made sure to hold her tight, as the cold wind was rushing trough her golden hairs , carrying them along in a macabre waltz, conducted by the clamor of the leaves and the village's bells.

Kyle knew fair well she was not crying solely of the robin bird's death , but he wouldnt intervene, he didnt knew the words to confort her. Instead , his hand brushed Mary's peachy cheeks. her own warm hands came to cover his , as she locked her tormented gaze within Kyle's dark ink irises. His face was grave but full of sorrow , and for a moment she sworn a single tear rolled its way down his cheek. Both of their icy breath , combining in a white vapor. slowly their lips pressed against each others. It was a cold kiss , humid and soaked in tears , but for Mary it was warm and sweet, and it sent shiver down her spine as her heartbeat fastened. He tasted like oat and honey. Kyle nervously grasped his friend's shoulders. He had no idea why he kissed her in the first place , it had seemed to be the right thing to do on the moment. And he couldn't bear to see her cry. He would have done anything to comfort her , even if it meant kissing her. Tough his kiss was an empty shell , a masquerade. But he couldn't help it . His entire life had been a knot of strings , guiding him trough a maze of white lies. He couldn't help. It was the right thing to do, being reasonable.

Softly , they pulled away from each other. Mary's glaze had softened, and her cheeks where of a sweet red, an awkward smile on her lips.

-"So you do love me... Mother was wrong!" she mumbled.

-"Erm.. i'm sorry.." Nervously replied Kyle , "Sorry about doing that before the official event." He added after seeing Mary's distraught face.

Mary was caught in a delighted laugh , as she wipped a tear.

-"I do not have a single care about those wedding rules , silly.." She singed 'My only care in the world is to... it is..." she stopped to brush off her hairs. "My only care in the world is to be with you"
