"Oh please don't let it start raining!"
"Quit whining, I can't hear!" Kaylee shushed Alex, quickly flipping her blonde hair away from her face so she could hear the clicking of the metallic underground vault better. As her right hand turned the sensitive knob about thirty-one degrees, clicks and shifts could be heard between the inside of the safe, and Kaylee's small form.
"Seriously Lee, if it starts to rain outside-" "Seriously, if you don't shut it-" The seven-foot tall safe clicked and the pressurized locks undid themselves, and wide smiles plastered Kaylee and Alex's faces.
"Oh my gosh..." "Shush, go quickly. We have four minutes to close the gate before an alarm goes off." Kaylee quickly pushed open the heavy door, and the two forced their way inside. Alex nodded and they opened their backpacks, and began to fill them with stacks of hundreds.
"I can't believe you did it, Kaylee, you're amazing...wow, we could actually get outta here, to Akleptea." Alex had a dreamy tone, while his hands worked quickly. The black stopwatch on his wrist said they were at one minute.
"As long as we're out of here in two minutes, we can make it to Akleptea and advance our powers." Kaylee explained, as she continued stuffing her bag with money.
"Kaylee, we're so close now, I can't believe we're actually doing this!" Alex cheered from a few feet away, gathering more money. His first bag was full, so he was quick to open up a second one and start filling that one. "Dont get overexcited, we still need to get out of here on time. Robbing this vault was our last chance to get out of this town, if we fail because we're too excited..." Kaylee couldn't push herself to continue. Her mind didn't want to imagine a life anywhere else but Akleptea. It was where her mind loved to imagine her being.
Alex's watch started to beep frantically, signaling the timer was running out.
"Quick, let's bust!" Kaylee zipped both of her bags, full of cash, and turned around to face the front of the vault. Alex quickly followed, and Kaylee saw they had thirty seconds to close the door, or the alarms would sound and very scary people would be on their way.
"Kaylee, how are we supposed to shift if we have these bags on?" Alex asked as he leaned against the vault door, trying to shut it. It was jammed, refusing to move. Kaylee groaned, pushing all of her weight onto the metal. If she could open it by herself, how come she couldn't close it? They both panicked, looking around for anything that might be stuck.
Twenty seconds...
"Alex, your bag!" Kaylee snarled at Alex when she saw his third backpack still inside of the vault. Alex scrambled to his feet and rushed inside of the vault, loose bills covering the metal floor and getting crunched under his sneakers. The heavy door clicked, and Kaylee's heart skipped a beat. The door began to close.
"Alex!" She yelled, and as he grabbed his bag, he turned around towards her. His eyes widened as he saw the door closing on him, and they both knew the vault wouldn't be able to be opened again for another twenty four hours. Alex would be stuck.
"Toss me the bag, Snake!" Kaylee yelled, and instantly Alex's bag flew towards her, and his human form shrunk to the ground, shape shifting into a black garden snake. Quicker than the door, Alex escaped, and the heavy vault door closed behind him.
Heavy locks and clicks could be heard.
"Alex, you nitwit!" Kaylee threatened to stomp on him, and Alex shifted back to his human form. "One, don't ever threaten to step on me, that's rude," Alex snatched his bag from Kaylee. "Two, it wasn't my fault you were yelling at me the entire time," He fixed his hair and wiped slime from his shirt, quickly adjusting back to his human nerve system.
