CHAPTER EIGHTY EIGHT !
☆
Estella had spent around twenty minutes walking with maggie and cyndie, listening to the conversations they were having. they were walking down a long road in the middle of the woods, a little far away from camp to check one of the points. there was a bunch of different people doing each of the points, just to check the safety.
rick had been saying a bunch of random stuff on the walkies that maggie replied to every so often when it concerned her. estella had her crossbow in her arms, ready to hit any walkers if needed. she wasn't sure she'd be allowed her crossbow after justin, but no one took it from her, which was a big win in her books.
"got activity near by. gonna go check it out." maggie said into the walkie as a couple of walkers walked into the woods.
"we're headed your way. grid five, do the same." rick said back, his voice coming out staticky due to the low quality walkies.
"do you think the walkers are headed somewhere with more, or do you think they're random strays?" estella asked, following.
"i'm not too sure. we'll check it out, follow them quietly." maggie replied, estella nodded.
"there's a house up ahead, off the road. could be coming from there. we used to live near here, before oceanside." cyndie said.
"what was that like?" estella asked her as they continued to walk up the road and to the woods.
"it was nice, but i prefer oceanside. i like to be near the sea, it's nice." cyndie said to her with a smile.
"okay, we're close. we'll quieten down, take light steps so we don't attract any of them our way." maggie said, walking through the trees with estella and cyndie hot on her trail.
it was easier for estella to keep her steps light than it was for the other two. she was wearing sneakers, where as they were wearing boots. they were lighter on the twigs on the ground, and didn't snap them as easy as the heel of a boot did. she thanked her lucky stars she didn't pack her boots for the trip, and just her sneakers.
"there's way more. i can hear them." estella whispered as they got to where the house was.
it was a wooden house, kind of like a farm house that wasn't on a farm. the three of them crouched down beside a red truck, trying not to let the walkers see them. there was somebody completely burnt in the truck, which was gross.
when they got to the truck bed, the three of them stood up to look at what the walkers were doing. it seemed like they were all trying to get into the house, and walkers were actually inside. estella had to stand on the tire and lean over the truck to actually be able to see, so she didn't clock on until a couple minutes after the others.
