I crouched down on the roof of the office blocks, my bright yellow eyes following my 'prey'. It was a stray hydra agent who had managed to escape from my grasp. The middle-aged man glanced over his shoulder, clearly paranoid and anxious. 'Hm, so he knows I'm looking for him?' I thought, smirking at his fear. I silently glided through the darkness, climbing down onto a windowsill and leaping towards the ground in an alleyway. Just before I hit the hard, wet ground I rolled forward and into the shadows; now my closest ally. As I crept behind him, the agent finally slowed his pace, apparently reassured that no-one was there. Oh, he couldn't have been more wrong. I dragged my long, dagger-like nails along the walls as I walked, grabbing his attention. He turned around, his eyes full of fear, and before he could scream I plunged my sharp-as-knives teeth into his throat. Soon, the horrid, metallic taste that I have grown custom to filled my mouth, and finally the lights in his eyes went out. His body slumped and I dragged him into an alley, and dumped him their.
"Hail hydra," I said mockingly to his now white face, then turned and walked away, not regretting a thing.
As I neared my apartment building, I knew something was wrong. The air felt close, tense. As I swept my eyes around the area, I saw a shadow retreat around the corner. I quickly changed into assassin mode, and crept towards the alley. As I neared the corner I stopped as I heard hushed voices.
"Are you sure you know where she lives?"
"Of course I do you idiot! We wouldn't be here if I didn't!"
"Well, sorry for being scared of being mutilated by an assassin!"
Having heard enough, I leapt into the alley, expecting to see two extra victims, but instead all I saw was a tape recorder.
"Oh, cra-"
A cloth was placed into mouth, then all I saw was darkness.

As I lay there, helpless, I saw the black, heartless eyes of the one I used to call my mother glare down at my lifeless form. "You deserve to die, you worthless, mewling quim! You are no daughter of mine!" She spat, before swimming away into the darkness. I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed until my eyes could cry no more. I curled my smooth black tail beneath me, and vowed that before the end, I would get revenge on my so-called mother.

I gasped as my eyes flew open. That goddamn nightmare! Well, it's more of a memory really. That was back when I lived in the ocean with my mother's clan of mermaids. It was such a magical place, until they started to kill humans to get food. I would have done it, if it weren't for my father being a human.
As I sat, lost in thought, someone clearing their throat caught my attention. I turned to see who it was. There stood a broad, dark-skinned man with an eyepatch, leaning casually against the full grey walls.
"Welcome to S.H.I.E.L.D. Miss. Asrai."
