"This isn't exactly regulation." Jesse muttered, looking at the datapad in front of him. His brows knit together as he reads over the specs of what the mechanic had done to repair his speeder.
"What are you, Dogma?" she retorted and raised a brow at him as she passed. There was a large crate of tools in her arms and before he could think about it, he moved to step in and take it from her hands and put it down on the bench she was headed to. There was a quirk of her brow as she looked at him. "Why thank you, Trooper," she said in a sing-song voice and Jesse felt his face flush red.
"Uh, no problem ma'am," he responded, trying not to look like a fool in front of the beautiful mechanic he was talking to. Was it really so hard to form a cohesive sentence? He was a highly celebrated member of the 501st! He had been in battle hundreds of times alongside Jedi against heavy odds and near death but this pretty girl smiles at him and his brain chooses then to stop working?? "Uh-- anyway I was just looking at the list and you-- well there's a lot on the list," he managed. Republic help him, this was hopeless. Fives was never going to let him hear the end of it if he ever found out. Jesse was better off returning to duty and not making a bigger mess.
"There is indeed," she replied and with that grin she flashed him, he found his feet didn't want to move. "You banged it up pretty good, so there was a lot to fix but it was savable!" She seemed rather proud of herself and he felt his own chest swell for some reason.
"I... yeah. We had a bit of a scuffle --nothing we couldn't handle of course!" he added swiftly and looked away, rubbing the back of his neck as he felt his face heat up.
"Of course," she replied in a tone that made his stomach do a backflip. "I... uh... well I was just not sure about all the junk on the requisition list and--" Suddenly she became very serious and her face dropped, he caught the look too late.
"I'm going to give you five seconds to take that back." She snapped at him, fixing him with a glare. Jesse's whole brain came to a grinding halt. Why did she look so mad? What did he do? What was it she wanted him to say??? Clearly seeing how confused he was, she dropped the tool she'd been holding into the crate and rolled her eyes at him. A moment later she stalked to his side and snatched the datapad from his hand and began to point out every individual item and tell him in detail what it did and he just stood there dumbly and nodded like an obedient child as she enlightened him. He knew the basics in repairing a speeder, but this was in no way his realm or expertise.
"...so this 'junk' as you call it, is really important...!" she finished and he looked down at her, a little angry face pouting up at him and he nodded. Stars, she was so pretty like this... but at the same time he was sure he'd messed up.
"Yes ma'am, my apologies, I meant no offense," his words were stiff and he was adamant not to slip up again.
"Hey Jesse!" called one of his brothers, he looked up to see Tup, Fives and Hardcase waving at him from across the hangar. "Come on! We have a briefing!" With an internal groan, Jesse waved a hand signalling he'd heard them before looking back at the little smirking mechanic. A smirk was better than a scowl though, right? Ah hell, what was he thinking? She would have had hundreds of conversations with his brothers, all the same face and he let out a slow breath. He shouldn't get ahead of himself.
"Uh.. I um, I have to go, ma'am." Jesse told the girl reluctantly. He didn't know if he would be able to face her for a while, he had to get over these weird feelings and just focus on his work. His gaze was on the floor so he missed the concerned look that crossed her face. The clone trooper nodded his head respectfully and moved to step away. He'd only gotten three steps when he heard--
"Jesse..." he blinked and turned, she knew his name? The girl was before him a moment later and she gripped the rim of his chestplate to yank him down to her level. He was so stunned at the action, he didn't resist. The next second, her lips were pressed to his cheek just at the corner of his mouth and his brain screeched to a halt for the second time. He barely heard the whooping from his brothers far behind him. After too short of a moment she released him and he looked down at her with a stunned expression.
"I don't make special upgrades to everyone's speeder you know," she told him with a wink and a smirk as tapped his forehead gently with the data pad as if to say 'you dummy'. "I expect you back here soon, Trooper." She flashed him a grin and his own face split into a big, wide, dumb grin.
"Yes, ma'am!" he replied enthusiastically, unable to wipe the smile from his face.
