14th February 2010, Bette and Tina's house
"Happy Valentine's, baby," Tina whispers as she presses her lips against Bette's forehead. She moans softly as she wakes, smiling with her eyes still closed.
"Happy Valentine's, Tee," she whispers, now squinting up at Tina above her.
"I got you a card," Tina says, handing Bette a bright red envelope. Bette sits up, leaning back against the headboard. She pats the bead next to her, indicating for Tina to get back into bed as she opens the envelope. Tina snuggles into Bette's side as she reads the card. On the front it reads 'To my fiancé' which instantly has Bette grinning.
Bette,
Happy Valentine's Day my love.
I am so proud to love you each and every day. You are my lover, my family, my rock, my life. You inspire me each and every day and I love loving you. I cannot wait to marry you.
All my love, now and forever, your Tina x
A single tear finds its way down Bette's cheek and Tina is quick to swipe it away with her thumb.
"That's beautiful," Bette whispers, wrapping her arm around Tina and pulling her closer. She plants a kiss on the top of her head and smiles as she inhales the gloriously familiar scent of her shampoo. "I cannot wait to marry you either. Which is why-" she pauses as she reaches into the top draw of her bedside table and pulls out a pink envelope. "I got you this," she finishes as she hands Tina the envelope.
Tina opens the envelope and as she's about to read the card a piece of paper drops out. She unfolds it slowly while glancing between Bette and the piece of paper, noting the apprehensive look on her face as she does so. The piece of paper appears to be a confirmation, it reads:
"Congratulations, your wedding ceremony has been booked!
We can't wait to see you on May 28th at the Hotel Metropole and Beach House, Avalon California."
Tina looks up at Bette in disbelief. "Well, I wasn't expecting that. God that venue is beautiful!"
"Oh I'm so glad you like the venue. I know we talked about it a little and I remembered you saying you liked it but James has a friend there who put us down on the list for first dibs on any cancellations which is why it's so soon and god Tee, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity. It's incredible there! And I know you said you wanted to keep it small and low-key and it's so intimate there I think it'll be perfect," Bette explains, her eyes dancing with excitement.
"It certainly sounds perfect," Tina says, re-reading the piece of paper, still trying to process the surprise.
"So you're not angry that I booked it without asking you?" Bette asks hesitantly.
"I mean, maybe a tiny bit. I did have this vision of us going and viewing loads of venues and I expected to have a little while yet to start looking at wedding dresses but, no, I'm thrilled baby. I'm thrilled and so, so excited," she lets out a giddy little laugh before kissing Bette.
"Okay now read the card," Bette says between kisses. "There's another surprise."
"There's more? God I don't know if you can top that, Bette," she says as she opens the card.
T,
With each day that passes I find myself loving you more and more. I am so happy to be spending another Valentine's Day with you and will be forever grateful to the universe for bringing us together.
I truly cannot put into words just how intoxicatingly ecstatic I am to get to marry you in just over three months' time. It will be the best day of my life. I am the luckiest woman alive.
