Rustling sounded again behind her, but this time she didn't know who had come to visit her special place. She had an idea though.
"Do you think this is a mistake, Marlan?" She asked, her eyes never leaving her brother's fading form. "How else will he learn if he doesn't personally suffer the consequences?"
"Is that regret I hear in your voice?" A deep voice hummed. Footsteps echoed as he walked to her side and she nearly shivered as the silk that was his wings draped over her lovingly. "It's not too late, you know. Just say the word, Shyra."
Shyra turned her head to look up at Marlan; an irritating reminder of how he was much bigger than her. Being male, it was natural. Even so, it was still aggravating when she only wanted to look into the dark blue dragon's eyes. If he tilted his head up ever so slightly, she would loose eye contact with him. At that moment, Shyra only wanted to rest in his golden gaze. "I can't. I promised him it would be taken care of."
Marlan growled slightly, his tale swishing back in forth in aggravation. "Shyra, you don't have to do this."
Shyra closed her eyes. Behind her lids, she saw Dag's young face. Immediately, love flooded her heart. "No, I do. He's so young."
She felt his snout nuzzle her head. "He's nearly grown." He reminded her gently. "If he isn't treated as fully grown now, then when?"
Shyra opened her eyes and stared back at Marlan. He just doesn't understand. Marlan, as rare as it was, didn't have a single sibling. Even if he did, he simply would not understand. No one understood her love for her brother. Maybe they will after today. "When I'm not here."
Marlan only stared at her in silence. Was there nothing he could to change her mind? Did she not understand how it was her claws tearing apart his heart? And to think; it was all because of her stupid brother.
Marlan cast a glance at the sky and flinched when he saw a few stars shimmering curiously in the young sky. "The stars don't lie, Shyra. We shouldn't keep King waiting."
She nodded her head. "Can we fly there together one last time?" She asked with pleading eyes.
He had to keep from flinching at her words. One last time. Weren't they suppose to fly together always?
He gave her an equally sad smile. "I didn't think there was any other way." He unwrapped his wing from her back and took a few steps away. She smiled a little brighter than her last, but still noticeably dim.
Their flight was a quiet one. Neither of them really cared though since this was how their flights usually went, but neither of them could deny that they wanted to speak right then. They just didn't know what to say. Even if they did, they wouldn't know how to say it anyways. It was just better to remain quiet.
Marlan looked to his side and felt his chest throb with pain when he saw Shyra. She was suppose to always fly by his side just like then. They had said for three years that once her brother was grown and once she was ten that she would become his mate. That was only five months away, and now that could never be their future.
