My mind couldn't absorb properly what had came out of his mouth. I could vividly replay the scenario in my head with no difficulty. The words leaving his lips and no sign of his usual arrogance. He asked to join my baking team. Since when did he showed an interest. Besides, if we do end up working together it will be like cats and dogs.
I blinked twice with my arms now crossed. My index finger pointed at my chest. "My baking team? As in the competition one?" I asked for assurance. My mind doubted his words.
"Is it hard to comprehend it?" He placed his hands at his sides, they rested against the table's edge.
"Coming from you, yes."
"So tell me, am I in?"
I pressed my lips in a thin line. Indeed I was truly desperate to find a partner but Malfoy had been the least person on the list of candidates.
A chill ran down my spine when I consciously thought of every warning that my mind alerted me to. "No." I answered.
"No? That's it?" He rose his eyebrows in utter confusion.
"How do I know it's not part of some secret agenda of yours?"
With his body resting against the edge, he crossed his legs.
His gaze fixated on mine. They didn't look further down from my face.
I met his gaze.
I didn't dared to look away. There was a faint trace of mischief behind those green eyes that brought a sense of doubt over his true intentions.
He released a low chuckle. "Secret agenda?" He threw his head back in uttered disbelief.
My mouth didn't flinch to join his expression.
Him showing his piercing smile brought nothing but annoyance. His laughter mocking my words made anger cradle up my back with its tracing heat.
"For you to ask me out of nowhere to join my baking team is hard to process. So yes, I might take it to be part of some secret agenda." I argued. Furthered challenged his gaze.
He pushed himself away from the desk and took a step closer, slowly closing in the space. "Is that what you think?" He rose an eyebrow.
My feet remained planted on where I stood. "Judging from past situations." I shrugged.
His steps grew closer.
All that my eyes were able to see was his chest overshadowing his desk from behind. My gaze drifted upwards, past his broad shoulders, then his neck and all the way to his eyes.
He returned the gaze.
Malfoy looked down on me with those cold eyes of his. However, that didn't bother me. His attempt to make me stutter brought only but fury under my skin.
I was not going to give in.
My shoulders rolled back and my chin rose upward. My eyes never hid the dominance in them. Its wild intake to roam.
His face leaned in and his breath warmed my ear. "We both know that having the Head Auror in your team can bring you the publicity that you need." A smirk made its way.
My sense came to an abrupt stop as I became intoxicated by his cologne. My lungs inhaled it almost in desperation. It somehow opened a deeper path into his self. He smelled like a dark forest surrounded by nothing but a union of wood and sweet picked apples.
