The sound of the rain pounding on the roof was the only thing that could be heard in the small cottage that night. Inside, Lily and James Potter sat nervously on their couch, both of them clutching a small, bundled up baby.
"Are you sure about this, James?" Lily asked, worry etched across her face. "We can't just take her in like this. We don't even know who she is."
"I know, Lily," James replied, his voice just as nervous as hers. "But we can't just leave her out in the rain like this. She needs someone to take care of her."
Lily nodded slowly, her eyes never leaving the baby's face. She had to admit, there was something about the little girl that drew her in. Her chubby cheeks, wide jewel blue eyes, and tufts of golden hair made her look like an angel. It was as if she was meant to be there with them.
Without another word, the couple made the decision to take the baby in as their own. They first went to the Gringotts for a blood-adoption, both James and Lily were barren, this was their only chance of having the family they wanted.
Sirius and Remus were surprisingly in the bank, the two were surprised when they entered with a baby in Lily's arms, and more so of how beautiful the child is.
"Prongs? Lily?" Sirius called, but Lily just pushed the two inside as James called for the Potters' Account Manager. Their accountant had arrived grumbling in goblin language to boot, then the couple explained the situation at hand. The others were understanding, and hence they got ready for the blood-adoption, with Sirius following them with the motion as the girl's godfather. They named her Octavia Lily Potter-Black, and she quickly became the center of their world.
They were happy, little Octavia was a bundle of joy to them. They don't know how old she really is, but they could tell that she was intelligent.
"Where's our Via!" Sirius called for her, Octavia let out a squeal when she heard his voice. Sirius's grin widened at the sound of his goddaughter. Sirius went inside the little home and went to her with a gift, it was their Via's first Yule after all.
Octavia clapped her hands in excitement as she saw Sirius enter the room. She had always adored her godfather, and seeing him always brought a smile to her face.
Sirius kneeled down in front of her, a large grin on his face. "Happy Yule, my dear Via," he said, holding out the gift to her.
Octavia eagerly took the package and tore off the wrapping paper to reveal a small, plush toy dog. She hugged the toy tightly to her chest, her eyes shining with happiness. Little Via babbled her happiness as hugged the stuffed dog.
"Aw, she likes it!" Sirius smiled, and held out another gift, "Here's another one, darling!"
Her little jewel blue eyes widen as she opens her second present, it was a toy broom, similar to the one her papa has. Her eyes twinkle as she mounted the broom.
Sirius chuckled as he watched Octavia pretend to fly on the broom. "Looks like we've got a little Quidditch player in the making," he said with a grin.
Lily and James watched their daughter with pride, happy to see her so happy. They had always known that Octavia was special, but seeing her grow up and develop her own interests was truly amazing.
As the night went on, the family gathered around the fire, enjoying each other's company and the warmth of the flames. Octavia was still playing with her new toys, but eventually, she grew tired and curled up in her parents' laps.
Lily and James looked down at their daughter, feeling an overwhelming sense of love and gratitude. They couldn't imagine their lives without her, and they knew that they would do anything to protect her.
As the rain continued to pour outside, the family fell asleep, wrapped in each other's arms, grateful for the love they shared and the warmth of their little home. And in that moment, nothing else mattered but the love they had for each other.
