A year had passed since Elena and Elijah's last encounter. They both found themselves at another ball, and when Elena walked in, Elijah couldn't take his eyes off her. Elena noticed Elijah staring and asked what he was looking at. Elijah was caught off guard, but he took a deep breath and said, "I'm sorry, Elena. I was just admiring how stunning you look tonight."

Elena raised an eyebrow and said, "You're not going to say something like 'you should be lucky to even be talking to me' again, are you?"

Elijah felt a pang of guilt as he remembered how he had acted towards Elena before. He looked down and said, "No, Elena. I'm sorry for how I acted before. I was arrogant and rude, and I shouldn't have treated you like that. You deserve respect and kindness, just like anyone else."

Elena was surprised by Elijah's apology but also relieved. She had been holding onto the hurt and anger from their last encounter, and it felt good to hear him take responsibility for his actions. She smiled and said, "Thank you, Elijah. That means a lot to me."

Elijah looked up and smiled back. "And I mean it when I say you look really good tonight. "Why thank you" Elena replied blushing, she looked into his eyes for a moment longing for the taste of his lips.

Elena and Elijah were lost in the moment, their faces inches apart as they leaned in for a kiss. But just as their lips were about to meet, they were interrupted by their parents, who were rivals of different kingdoms. They approached the couple, asking what they were doing.

Elena and Elijah quickly pulled apart, blushing and embarrassed. Elena spoke up first, saying, "We were just getting to know each other, that's all."

Elijah's father looked skeptical, but Elena's mother finally spoke "Elena my dear, you should not even be near this trash much less talking to him"

Elena felt as if her heart was shattering into a million pieces "Yes mother, can we go home I can't stand the sight of him. I don't know why I even talked to him to begin with."

Elijah frowned for a second before realizing Elena didn't mean what she was saying and just wanted her mom to think that. "Come along now Elijah, we have more important things to do than to waste our time on these snobs" said his mom.

"Go get in the carriage I need to use the restroom before we leave" Elena said to her parents "Okay my dear," her mom said walking away. Elena quickly ran to the bathroom, writing her phone number down.

She left the bathroom and saw Elijah "Shit he's with his dad" Elena thought to herself. She caught Elijah's eye while his fathers back was turned and placed a small paper into a bush beside her and left.

Elijah slowly crept his way over to the bushes trying not to be caught by his parents. He got close enough to grab the paper before someone said "Elijah what are you doing" it was his mother.

"Oh mother I thought I saw a... cockroach," he said as his mother peered at the floor. "Ew thats filthy, can't even afford to clean this place tsk tsk, come on son lets go home."
