CHAPTER ONE

Whoever said that High School is "the best four years of your life" was completely out of their mind. High School. WORST. THING. EVER. INVENTED. No, I do not hate learning. The actual school part of High School is the part I like. Might I mention, I am the biggest nerd with the outer shell of a punk-as-fuck teenager, and yes, female.

Now, the High part of high school is exactly as it sounds... a bunch of kids getting high, having sex with anything that moves (maybe even some things that don't) and spending every part of their shitty pay checks on the latest Nike apparel. My group of friends... well, we joke about getting high even though none of us would ever even think about touching anything of the sort and we spend our shitty pay checks on every video game we can afford.

"Rory! Over here!" Yep, that's my name... and that's my group of nerdy/slightly punk friends waving me over to the same place we stand every morning before first bell. The Choir room. Allow me to introduce you.

The inhumanly tall guy with curly brown hair waving at me with the doofiest expression on his face... yeah, that's Wade. Book smart, extroverted, guaranteed to cheer you up and bring you your favorite candy when you're upset. I've known Wade since first grade along with Mark, Tyler and Vinny.

Next, we have the also inhumanly tall blonde introvert with glasses, Bob. VERY smart, in all cases and HILARIOUS. He has a laugh like Santa Clause that could even make Kristen Stewart laugh. (Okay, I love Kristen Stewart to death, but come on.) I met Bob in sixth grade, he made the most awkward year of my life... less painful.

The averaged-height guy with glasses and light brown, curly hair is extremely fit, and introverted until you get to know him. Pretty much never leaves home with out his stone face, and is an amazing friend, Tyler. He only shows emotion if he likes you; it's actually pretty funny because everyone thinks he's a douche bag, but we all know he's actually one of the nicest guys on earth.

Then we have the next averaged-height guy with dark brown, slightly curly hair, most punk of the guys, and who's good at Math and Science but not our native language, Vinny. THE computer guy with an amazing sense of humor and my best friend... also my neighbor.

And the last of the guys, short for a male, but very muscular and yet still nerdy as fuck. The black-haired Asian with glasses, Mark. Probably the best student Milford High School had to offer with the most common sense and life experience... and the guy I've had a crush on since the third grade... ANYWAY MOVING ON.

Starting the girls would be the Jewish (in heritage, but definitely not in religion), black haired, short, slightly over-extroverted (but amazing, nonetheless), Rebecca. The mathematician of the group with a diaphragm of steel (that's a choir joke). I met Rebecca sophomore year, and we hit it off from the start, staying super close ever since.

The next female is a very thin and tall for a girl, extroverted but not too much, and is lazy but a loveable blonde, give her a hand (but not your homework), Taylor! Not a straight A student like the rest of us, but still a good kid... as long as a teacher doesn't piss her off. She is probably the most actual badass of the group. The rest of us are all bark, no bite. Taylor will bite. I met Taylor in seventh grade when she moved from the ghetto to suburbia. That might explain why she will bite...

Do I have to describe myself? Ugh, okay. As you heard, I'm Rory. Medium weight and height for a girl, long, curly hair (dyed navy blue, although it will most likely change) hair, introverted yet the most punk of the group with a lot of life experience, but still beaten by Mark by a long shot. Street smarts over book smarts, but I'm still VERY intelligent... Plus, I have what I'd Like to think as a pretty good sense of humor.

There, that's all of us. Finally.

"Hey guys." I smiled and placed myself within the circle we formed. Rebecca, Wade and I were the only ones who had Choir, but everyone else stood with us anyway. Mark, Bob, and Tyler had band which was pretty close by, but the others had scattered classes.

"Hey! Anti-homecoming is still on for tonight right?" Wade asked. As the nerds and partly punk rock group of the school, we didn't go to dances... or any school events really. Except for Band and Choir concerts, we make our own events.

"Yep! Be at my house by seven. Bob, bring cards against humanity." I instructed.

"Got it." He smiled.

"And I'll bring a shit ton of video games." Mark announced, causing all of our nerd senses to tingle.

"I got the energy drinks!" Taylor yelled.

"We're not going to be sleeping." Rebecca laughed. We had all been really good friends for various amounts of time, we're juniors. We've had plenty of giant sleepovers at each of our houses.

"That is very true." Tyler agreed.

"Except for Rory because she's a loser." Mark teased.

"Yeah... I've slept on the energy of like two monsters." We all laughed and the warning bell rang, forcing us to say our goodbyes and head to class. Rebecca, Wade and I entered choir class and immediately deducted that, by Mr. Baley's expression, we were in for a lecture. We walked like scared puppies to our seats and sat down without a word until the actual bell rang. Baley checked attendance and then began his speech.

"Hey guys, I just wanted to talk about something very important to me. As you know, we are going to be singing "No One Is Alone from Into The Woods". Let us take a moment to decipher this song verse by verse."

Well, in all honesty, it lasted way longer than a moment but he finally pieced everything together.

"I want you all to listen very carefully to this because I know this knowledge could someday help you... What this song is trying to tell us is... In our human life, we always will encounter obstacles that need to be solved with a decision. Sometimes they may be small, other times they could be traumatic. No matter what size the problem, the decision will always make a bigger impact. Everyone has a viewpoint on certain situations. You have your opinion and someone else may have a different one and sometimes you may have to stand alone, but if you know what you are doing is right, do it. You may lose people, but if you are fighting for the right thing, you were meant to lose them. Just remember, whatever you choose affects not only you, but every. single. person. around you, so choose carefully. Witches can be right, Giants can be good. You decide what's right, you decide what's good. Don't judge people for who they once were, judge them for the actions they take now." Then the bell rang, leaving all seventy-something of us in awe. Baley always had something philosophical to say and he honestly helped me with a lot of my problems.

"Baley's great." Rebecca laughed as the three of us walked to our separate second bells.

"He always has some life lesson to teach us." Wade laughed.

"He's my favorite teacher," I said as we reached my Spanish class. I hugged them goodbye and walked in with a groan. I hate Spanish.
