The first half of my day went as usual... until biology.Mark has been my lab partner all year. Sometimes Taylor joined us, but recently she has been Tyler's lab partner. Anyways, I'm excited to be able to talk to Mark during our lab today without Taylor making everything completely and utterly awkward by wolf-whistling and pushing me into him.
One time she literally dumped ammonia on the crotch of his pants trying to get me closer to him. Like, really?? Ammonia? Of all things you choose ammonia?!
"Alright," Mrs. Storey smiled as the bell rang. I found my seat next to Mark and smiled at him.
"Hey."
"Hey." He returned the smile.
"Today we start our fetal pig dissection lab. I'm sure you all picked up the packet at the front..." She explained everything we were to do and sent us on our way.
"Okay, so it says to cut it down the middle and in a half circle behind each pair of legs." Mark read the packet and handed me the scalpel. Why was I the one doing the cutting? Oh well. This isn't going to be too hard (I've done a dissection before). I cut a slit down the underside of the pig and the smell of preservative filled the air.
"Ugh." Mark shielded his nose. I scooted back in my chair a bit and continued to cut the pig. The packet walked us through the structures we needed to identify, including the small and large intestine, lungs, liver and stomach. Everything was going just fine until idiot me had to do something horrendous.
When I got to the bladder, the unimaginable happened...I nudged it with the forceps trying to move it, and NOT squeeze it, but I failed. Horribly. The amount of preservative in the bladder was so large that it squirted upwardly and hit Mark... in the face.
"Oh my god! I am so sorry!" I ran to the in class sink and grabbed a paper towel. "I did not mean to do that, I swear!" I removed his glasses and dabbed at his face without thinking, trying to fix what I had just screwed up. "I didn't know it was going to-" Mark grabbed my hand causing me to stop dabbing and babbling.
"It's okay, it's not your fault." He smiled and took his glasses and the paper towel out of my hand to clean them. I put my face in my hands to hide my blush and laughed slightly.
"I'm so sorry." I mumbled and looked around the room, expecting to see everyone gawking at me. To my surprise, no one had noticed, not even Mrs. Storey. I looked back at Mark cleaning his glasses and my heart felt heavy. Now he'll never like me.
"Hey," He put his glasses back on.
"Hm?" I returned to reality.
"It's okay." He must have noticed my mood change. I nodded.
"We should probably get back to this... and maybe you should cut it." I blushed a little and handed him the scalpel.
He smiled a heart-achingly warm smile and took the tools from me, talking through the structures and whatever else we needed to get done in the packet.

"You WHAT?! THAT'S WORSE THAN WHEN I SPILLED AMMONIA ON HIS CROTCH!" Taylor laughed at me as I re-applied my eyeliner.
Taylor and Rebecca came over to my house early to get ready together. Anti-homecoming is strictly pajama attire but we, being girls, found a way around that. I had on skinny-legged sweatpants, a blink-182 shirt and a flannel. That counts as pajamas.
"I wouldn't have told you if I would have known you were gonna make me feel this bad about it." I frowned at her. Not helping at all. She just kept laughing.
"Ignore her, you know she doesn't mean to make you upset." Rebecca comforted me.
"Yeah I know it's just... I feel like I ruined everything. Like, I felt like I actually might have been getting somewhere and that just ruined it all."
"You didn't ruin it. Mark is a good guy." Rebecca argued.
"Just because he's a good guy doesn't mean he'll like me back, I've probably been friend-zoned for good."
"Rory," Taylor put an arm on my shoulder. "You gotta stop putting yourself down like this. Yeah, I joke around with you about that stuff, but there is no doubt in my mind that there is someone who will love you for who you are, whether it be Mark or not." I smiled at both of them.
"Thanks guys." There was a small knock on the door to my room and my mom stepped in.
"We're leaving, have fun girls, we'll be back tomorrow! Make sure to lock the doors." My mom smiled and she and my dad headed toward the garage.
"Sweet, you got your parents to leave!" Rebecca said.
"Yeah! They're going to my cousins house for the night."
"YAS now I can scream 'fuck' when I get jump scared instead of 'frick', it just doesn't have the same effect you know?" We all laughed and heard my doorbell ring, right before someone walked in and yelled, "Rory?"
It was Mark. We all went upstairs to the living room, where everything was set up, only to discover all the guys had arrived together.
"You guys ready?" I asked.
"Yeah!" Vinny yelled.
"Let's get this party started!" Wade sang, making us all laugh.
"God we are such nerds," I said with a chuckle. "Come on, let's start with a scary movie!" I yelled and ran to put one in.
"Aww come on, no scary movies!" Wade pouted.
"Shut up Wade, don't be such a baby." Mark teased.
"Okay, we all know you get the most scared Mark." Bob joked.
"Yeah..." Mark didn't even try to defend himself. He knew better. We have proof of his major wimpiness.
"Okay," I sat down on one of my three couches. "Everyone sit down, it's starting!" Mark sat down on my right and Tyler sat on my left... with what had happened earlier, Mark sitting next to me made me feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable. And awkward. Yeah, a lot of awkward.
