Chisom

I looked at myself in the standing mirror, I wore a white crop top and grey baggie jeans. I packed my braids in a ponytail. I didn't look that bad. But I wasn't excited about this whole school thing. Gosh, I'm done with high school. I try to calm myself down and look at the positive side of things. The only good thing that would come out of going to school, is if that handsome boy goes to it. Since it's like the only public high school in Cantor, maybe or maybe not.
"Let's go, Chisom," Anna said, I don't like how she pronounced my name, or how anyone here does. Even my stupid brother! Shi- so- m. That's ridiculous.
I carried my bag, and followed her downstairs, she took an apple and said we should start going.
"I don't understand, I've not eaten," I said sitting down, the table had fruits, cereals, and milk. The fact that it's the cereal I'd eat in the morning is slowly vexing me.
"Just take an apple or something, we are gonna go late," Anna said looking pissed.
"You and who is doing that one, take an apple for breakfast, you want to make me die?"
"I don't get you, with your thick Nigerian accent, but geez we need to go" I gave her the side eye, as I mixed cereal, enough to my satisfaction, and ate as she watched me with fury in her eyes. I don't care, I don't give a damn

I just finished eating, when Angela came in. "What are you girls still doing here?" She asked.
"Chisom decided to eat a full bowl of cereal, that's why she's fat"
"Excuse me, but being thick is the main thing"
"That's for you Nigerians,"  she said.
I want to argue, but guy she's right. And so?
"Your daughter is being a racist," I said, directing to Angela. She's like all those quiet people I don't normally like.
"She's not, you girls have missed the bus, let me drop you girls off,"  the woman said.
      "Americans" I murmured

" Nigerians," Anna said, I smiled.

"I called a content you called a country, wow," I said with so much mockery, that she rushed towards her mum's car, I started laughing. It's like, I can eventually like this girl.

Anna took me to the principal's office, where I got registered, and gave me my schedule. We didn't talk to each other until it was time to part ways.
Honestly, when I entered the building, shivers ran down my spine as I looked at everyone who looked at me. They were mixed, white people and black people. I felt a bit nervous, but the guy I knew that last I'm the only one in control of my feelings. So I took a deep breath and walked with Anna, who I think it's one of the school's good girl nerds. Do you know? How American high schools label people. There are the bad boys, probably in a band or on the football team, bad boys are most times not bullies, they're just popular, like my girls, and handsome. Most times players. There are the good girls, who are nerds and end up with the bad boys. There's the weirdos, they are quiet and loners. I don't fancy those kinds. They also have the teacher's pet, who's likely the class president. Then the mean girls, I love those kinds, they are so pretty and rich. I can't wait for one to cross my part, and try nonsense. I think I fall into the tomboy category, I don't think I'm a tomboy but, I like to fight. And so on. How do I know this much? I watch a lot of high school movies, back in Nigeria.

"Let me see your schedule,"  Anna said when it was time for us to part ways. I showed her.
"You have English, I'd show you. Meet me here after your class, so I'd show you your next class"  she said.

"Yes ma," I said with a smile

When I entered the class the first person I saw was him, he was sitting at the back, wearing a blue shirt,  and blue jeans. He was on his phone, I swallowed a lump and smiled. That's weird, but that's what I did. This sexy guy is in my school, in my English class. I walked to the back and sat beside him. Students turned to stare at me, I stared back, I'm not scared of judgemental eyes.
I wanted to talk to him, when the teacher came in, one plump-looking man, on the unit! Wow. He wore glasses and looked intimidating.
"Good morning, today I'd be introducing a play by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet" everyone in class groans, but I didn't. I love love.
"Has anyone read it?" I immediately raised my hand. Everyone turned to look at me.
"And you are?" The teacher asked.
  "Teacher, I'm Chisom just started"

"Call me Mr Johnson," he said, the way he said it, I don't think he likes me very much. Well, it's mutual, and when I don't like someone, I either fight them or annoy them. He's my elder, so I'd go with annoying.

"Sir where I come from we don't call teachers by their names," I said, I call  my brother's wife Aunty, but she hates it, I don't care

       "And where is that? Nigeria"
"Yes Teacher Johnson"

    "Africans"
"What happened to us? One of us broke your heart?"
The class started laughing, I turned a bit to see that the handsome Guy was smiling too.
"Sit down, miss," he said and I obeyed.
"But sir, I have read the play" I stood up immediately and said.
"I said sit down," he said, trying not to yell, awesome.
