Many years ago, around the 50s, Selita Bakker found the Bakker clan. Used to be best mercenary in Night City, second to Santiago Aldecaldo.
She believed in single person decision making and didn't trust the family she founded to take higher responsibilities. No one dared to stand against her decisions. Whatever she said, whenever she said, the work was done. As a result, the family became dependent on her judgements. Despite her micromanaging style of leadership she was held with deep respect and affection by the Bakkers. These factors combined to make her position of leadership unassailable.
Selita's death was a massive hit for the clan. Her absence brought about a power vacuum that nobody else in the family was able to fill, except for maybe a rebel teenager called Billy who was quickly dismissed for his lack of clan political knowledge and instead was succeeded by DeLou Bakker, Selita autistic son for some reason. DeLou's tenure was brief, dying during a skirmish with Raffen Shiv. The thorn was taken by Lorna Ruiz who resigned the leadership a short time afterwards, because of her alcohol addiction. Chari Dahlin took her place as the family's fourth leader in two years. Sometime later, she committed suicide and left with no choice and desire for leadership, twenty-six year old William Banks and his younger sister Valarie was promoted as joint leaders.
Sadly, the family couldn't operate for much long. No one was wise enough to guide the two nor advice. Bill and Val suffered PTSD eventually when they lost about twenty members of their clan to a joint operation conducted by Wraiths and Raffen Shiv. Eventually, it came to the point where the Bakkers operate steadily and the decision was made to merge with Snake Nation was debated. Not all members of the Bakkers were in agreeance with their family being subsumed by Snake Nation. As a result there was a split with many young members such as Trin Bakker (Selita's granddaughter) leaving the family to find their own fortune, none retaining any links with the Bakkers who joined Snake Nation.
Among them were the Banks siblings. They had no idea what was waiting for them in Night City.
