You'd imagine their surprise when I walked into Johla's three days later in a raincoat with an umbrella and my surprise when Sunshine was at the till instead of Jonathan or Kihla.
It seemed to be a day of oddities.
I shyly handed him my toiletries and he was as friendly as ever. He handed me my bagged goods and change before he held my wrist.
I had been avoiding eye contact.
'I get off in 10, can we talk?' He asked and me? Not an ounce of self-respect could be found as his body temperature felt comfortable on my skin.
I nodded and he sighed with relief.
I wasn't sure what to do with myself, so I made my way to the bus shelter. True to his word. He appeared 10 minutes later.
'I'm sorry for my behavior,' he said after a long and heavy silence, as it drizzled.
'I needed a break from my last job, so I came to my aunt's place to help out since I had when I was younger, anyway it was an occupational hazzard, so if I haven't messed it up entirely with my Amare, I'd like to take you out,' he said and I sat quietly.
What a wicked man Sunshine could be.
'I'm not sure-'
That would be a good idea.
I couldn't say it. I had over reacted. Leaped to conclusions and sulked all by myself.
I had never met any man that could rattle the common sense out of me. I still refused to look at him. I'd crumble if I did.
'Just some of your time, all I need is an hour of your time,' he said and I glanced at him. He was sat with his body turned towards me, watching me intently.
Was this another occupational hazzard?
Be still you nasty organ of a heart. It trembled in my chest when our eyes met and he had his elbows on his knees and fingers clasped over his mouth as he waited for my answer.
I'm not quite sure why he was so intent on me. But looking at how the light danced in his eyes and his hair looked disheveled... I felt weak.
It wasn't normal.
It was unnatural.
How drawn to him I was.
I took a deep breath and sighed. He had no idea what he did to me. It was honestly unfair.
'Fine, sure... I'd like that,' I said and I watched as the corners of his lips turned up and how this boyish charm lit up as his smile touched his eyes.
'Good, we can meet up 3 days from now at noon? We can meet up here,' he suggested and I became curious at that.
'Wouldn't it be better to exchange numbers,' I asked and I watched his body freeze.
'I'm not very good with technology from more advanced sectors,' he admitted shyly and his ears turned a bright red.
Fucking adorable.
'3 days from now at noon, it is,' I said with a smile and reached out to touch his forearm just to reassure him that I didn't look at him any different.
What my grand gesture didn't expect was how comfortable his warmth felt. Lulling, almost addictive. Another was how sturdy he felt under my touch. His hand touched mine and I let out a breathe I didn't know I was holding when our eyes met again and he smiled at me.
I wish I could freeze that smile and rip it from time just so it could remain petrified in the confines of my heart. Prestine. Well. So I could remember it vividly until my dying day.
Sunshine was a dangerous thing to me. My common sense had the tendency to leave me in his presence.
