"He was dressed in a bright red suit, with a dark blue collar and accents. He had some gold buttons. It was impressive, really, how clean his suit was."
It felt like minutes passed, and not a word was spoken.
He sulked in his sadness and sank in his chair.
"He wasn't doing anything, either. He just kinda.. he um... he just... stood there. Looking away. As if we weren't the last two people." James began to tear up, and bob lightly, up and down, as he began to sob. "As if we weren't the last two people on earth."
He sat in the fetal position, curled up and laying against the arm rest and back of the chair.
His light tears quickly gained weight. Streams of hot tears flooded down his cheeks as he gasped for air.
"Where did everyone go?"
He spoke quietly between sobs.
"Mom, dad. Where did you go?"
He sat there for several minutes.
And he said nothing else.
And he just cried.
And he just let the weight of it all set on him, and it crushed his small little body.
Why me? He thought.
Why James?
What about me made you do this?
Whoever you are, whatever you are.
Why?
James debated if it was worth anything to finish today's log. But he composed himself and continued.
"It was weird, I uh-" he stifled back a sob and cleared his throat and sniffed. "I didn't feel anything when I saw him. Normally, I think, I'd be super, you know, excited to see someone else. But this time, nothing. Like I knew he wasn't real, like my mind disregarded him."
A few short seconds passed, and he added.
"Yeah, he uh. He wasn't real. It was just a nut cracker. You know? Those things? With the weird little jaws? He looked so real, though." James reminisced. "I think my brain just, saw something, anything really, that resembled a person and just filled in the gaps." He made a poofing sound and a motion of mind-blown with his hand.
He wondered for a few seconds, then his eyes widened in confusion. "No, 'cause-"
He struggled at first but sat up on the chair, the right way.
"- 'cause like, who would put a nut cracker there?"
