I left Olivia's house a few minutes after the conversation we had about Tyson. I was relieved to finally be able to trust him now that I knew more about him. I also had immense respect for Olivia, who was in love with someone yet wasn't okay being part of their world because of what she read and saw. To have such strong feelings for someone and still be able to prioritise her own morals is admirable and worthy of great respect.Stepping out of the house, I was met by Tyson eagerly standing at the door, accompanied by Hudson. There was something special in my interactions with Tyson; it seemed like he wanted to make sure I was protected and secure, even around somebody else. It felt nice to be taken care of like that from time to time. Looking back on it now, it was probably for the best that he went ahead and talked with Olivia - mending the rift between them and hopefully maintaining a connection afterward.
"Hudson, we need to keep going. We have to get back home and find your parents." My words held a mix of hope and desperation; I wanted so badly for my adopted family to be safe, for them not to have been taken away from the house by whoever had kidnapped them. They were so important to me, had been such positive figures in my life when I was younger; there was no way I would leave them behind. Even though I was scared at first because I've never seen Hudson react the way he did a week ago.
"Harper, it's more important for you to find your soulmate than help our family. You need to put yourself first, and I'm here to support you on this journey. No one should have to make this journey alone, especially someone with as many gifts as you still have yet to discover." Worry creased Hudson's brow; he knew I would try running away again in protest of his words if he wasn't careful. His answer didn't sit right with me. I felt alone and left behind when my parents died even thought it wasn't there fault i had no one to turn to but my self and I don't want him or his parents to feel that way.
"I understand where you're coming from, but perhaps there's something at home that my parents left behind which can help us both discover the power I may have to find a soulmate." Hudson seemed to understand immediately. "Harper," Tyson said, "I'm still convinced I called you mate the second I saw your human form. My wolf wouldn't do that with just anyone." He glanced at me skeptically, as if questioning his own conclusion.
"Tyson, even though I'm new to the shifter life and all, it's obvious that you love Olivia completely and deeply. Your mate isn't me – it's her. Because she isn't a wolf, your wolf hasn't officially called her mate. I truly believe that it would be best if you stay with her and protect her at all costs rather than coming with us. You have kept the secret safe so far, but there are those who would hurt Olivia to get information out about us." I glanced towards Hudson and he nodded in agreement. When I first met Olivia, she struck me as a sweet and kind individual, but she was undoubtedly lacking in strength. It would take her weeks or even months to build up the fortitude necessary to protect herself if need be.
"I can't and won't abandon you on this mission. I'm aware that I shouldn't leave Olivia alone, and you're right, but I also know that if I don't come along, I'll feel as though there was something more that I could have done to help." He was correct - he had no choice but to stay with Olivia or join us - but the sorrowful expression on his face made it clear how difficult this decision was for him.
It was unclear whether Tyson would stay or leave Olivia. Bringing her along with us may be the best option, as she would then have three bodyguards looking out for her and we could teach her how to fight. It seemed that she had few family members who would look after her if necessary. Separating two people who are deeply in love with one another and willing to do anything for each other should be avoided at all costs. I can't change Olivia's opinion on werewolves, but perhaps Tyson can.
"Tyson lets bring Olivia along, I'm sure she'll feel safer with the three of us to watch over her. Plus on our travels we can help her learn how to fight; Hudson is a master of combat. Let's talk to Olivia and let her decide whether she wants to come with us. And make sure she knows who Hudson and I are, alright?" I explained, though Hudson seemed skeptical about my decision, as if this was a major mistake on my part.
