They always said don't run, because then you'll die tired.

I prefer to run and not die.

The shadows of one of the many alleyways curving throughout Tyruskit like a labyrinth was the perfect place to take shelter while counting the units from my last deal. It was hidden, secluded, and best of all, news and blackmail flowed through the passages like water from a drain.

I exhaled slowly, lowering my hood to let my tangled hair fall out over my shoulders. There was no one here at the moment. Usually that didn't last long.

Lowering myself to the ground, I rested my back against the wall of the building behind me. The ground was damp. Lovely. I murmured a few curses to myself, spreading my cloak out underneath me before pulling my earnings from my bag attached to my hip. Six hundred units for two pills seems excessive, eh? But, of course, Elmir was filled with stupid drug addicts. So that's why I was here. To sell overpriced substances to the stupid drug addicts.

I had to pay an arm and leg for them though. No, not literally. I bought them from the person who actually paid for them with their arm and leg- and upes was one hell of a drug to have your hands on.

Sure I had cocaine, marijuana, the basics and the works. But upes? I could sell one of those pills and have all my meals for the week paid for.

Unfortunately, my stocks on upes were low. Due to the fact we were in a bit of an... upes induced pandemic spreading throughout the planets. Upes' side effects were... unique. I should know, I've taken it. Only once though. The high for me wasn't worth it.

That and the government of both Elmir and Myru were cracking down on the usage of upes, due to the amount of murders that had taken place committed by those under the influence of the drug. It was said that it gave the taker supernatural powers...

And I was selling that drug to people. Did I care that through me people were probably gonna die? Pfft, no. That was clearly a them problem.

"Twenty, forty, sixty..." I murmured to myself as I counted my units, storing them back in my cloak for safe keeping. I had already checked to see if they scammed me from my last sale, but now I was counting my total. I had earned nearly eight hundred units and it wasn't even noon. And I didn't even have to depart from one of my precious upes pills hidden expertly within the seams of my cloak.

Seeing that no one was coming, I lifted my arm, fiddling with my dusty communicator strapped to my forearm.

"Going online." Came a robotic voice I liked to call Eris from my earpiece, just before a sound of static erupted from the communicator directly into my ear. I tweaked with the dials, searching the channels for any interesting news that had popped up over the last few days.

"Scientists believe that there could be another cause for the drug pandemic." Came a voice through the communicator, meaning I had come across a station that my device could actually reach.  "'A drug that gives individuals supernatural abilities with no consistency is simply unheard of. Enhancements exists, sure, but the results are always the same. There must be something going on with this 'upes' that we, the public, aren't being told about.' Says one scientist. Others claim that the Nephite government must be conspiring with the others to put the drug into circulation, as a means of controlling the public. As of now Nephius has not issued a response.

I scoffed. Those pretentious snowmen could never.

I switched channels. "An upes drug plant found on Venisho was raided mere hours before operatives arrived. Prime suspect appears to be a Myruian-Vens hybrid by the name Kaine Salvoros. Suspect was seen fleeing the scene moments after the suspected time of the heist. The Vens government refuses to comment any further on the subject."
