I sat on my bed as my phone rang. I quickly picked it up, considering it was the call I've been anxiously waiting for, for which felt like forever.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hello, is this Ms. Y/N Y/L/N?" he asked.
"Yes that's me," I said, just wanting to know.
"Well we received your test results," he said.
"And?" I asked.
"I'm really sorry to tell you that you have acute myeloid leukemia," the doctor, I felt my heart sink and as is the entire world just stopped, and I couldn't manage to talk.
"We would like to start treatment as soon as possible, is three days from now okay?" he asked.
"Yes," I choked out after a moment of silence.
"I'm sorry Ms. Y/L/N," he said.
"Thank you, bye," I said as I hung up. I placed my head in my hands as I stared out the window. I felt numb and completely in shock. I didn't know what to do. I heard the front door open and close, indicating Cameron was home. Oh no. I would have to tell him. But how? Would he leave? My heart raced as he walked in.
"Hey babe," he grinned.
"Uhm, I need to talk to you," I said quietly.
"Everything okay? You're not breaking up with me are you?" he panicked.
"No, just sit," I said. He sat next to me and I looked down at my lap.
"The hospital called," I said.
"Yeah," he said, waiting for me to continue.
"I have cancer," I said. I felt his arms pull me close and he rubbed my back slowly. He pulled away and his hands were placed on my shoulders.
"Please don't leave me," I whispered as a tear slid down my face for the first time since finding out.
"I could never, I'm going to be here the whole time. I'll cancel the tour, I'm never leaving your side," he said.
"Don't cancel your tour," I said, shaking my head.
"No, I am," he said.
"I just, I feel fine, but I know I'm not and its only gonna get worse from here and I don't know how I'm going to do this," I cried.
"You're okay," he whispered.
"It's just kind of hit me how scared I am," I whispered.
"D-do you think I'm gonna die?" I asked as I began full on sobbing.
"I know you're not going to. My Y/N is the strongest girl I know. You're gonna fight this, and you're gonna win," he said.
"But what if I don't?" I asked.
"No thinking like that, you will," he repeated.
"And I'm never leaving you, I will be here every step of the way, and you're gonna come out stronger than ever," he said.
"You're right," I said.
"Fuck cancer," I added.
"FUCK CANCER!" he yelled, I laughed at him as I leaned into his chest and breathed in his scent.
"I'm gonna have no hair," I pouted.
"That's okay. It'll grow back, plus you'll look beautiful anyway," he said.
"You're just saying that because I'm sick," I said.
"I'm not," he laughed.
"I don't want needled in me, or to be bald, or to be stuck in a hospital room," I said, still crying.
"It's okay, it's not forever, before you know it you'll be out of there, healthy and living an amazing life," he said.
"As long as you're in it," I said.
"I'm never ever leaving," he said.
"I love you, Cameron, so much," I said.
"I love you too, more than I can ever put into words," he said. I leaned in and pressed my lips against him, this one being different than any other time we've kissed, it held so much passion.
"You're only going to get stronger," he said when we pulled apart.
"Thank you, I don't know how I would do this without you here," I said.
"I'm always here, no matter what," he said as he took my hands into his. Another tear slid down my face as he wiped it away with his thumb.
"I hate seeing you like this," he said.
"I won't let anything bad happen to you. I'm here to protect you from everything, you're not going anywhere," he said. I looked up at him and nodded my head.
"That's my girl," he smiled. I pecked his lips quickly.
"Can we have pizza and cuddle and watch movies one more time before I have to get chemo?" I asked.
"Of course, anything for you princess," he said. I smiled widely.
He was right, I was going to fight this as hard as I possibly could. And I was going to win.
