joey

Walking down the street with my duffel bag, people were staring at me like they've seen a ghost. I rolled my eyes and walked passed by our neighbor, Ivy, who's really sneaky and she talks alot. Like. A lot.

It's been 5 years since I left here, maybe that's why our neighbors are pure shocked. It was a sunny day in Doncaster, my family lives here, including my step-sister who I don't know. I don't know her name. Anything about her, none.

The thing is, when did I have a step-sister? Why did she hide about her from me? She has me, although, I'm 6,000 miles away from her. I send her money, so she can live. She knows that I'm busy working, so, I didn't come back for 5 years.

After few minutes of walking, I fixed my hair and knocked on our door, "Mom? Are you there?" I called as I was about to knock again, but a blonde hair girl opened the door and she beamed at me, "Hello, my mom's cooking. She told me to open the door for you." She said as I nodded and pursed my lips.

"You must be her step-daughter." I mumbled, she nodded.

"And you must be Joey. Her daughter. Yeah, hi." She took out her hand and I shook it, "So, can I come in?" I asked as she giggled like a school girl, which annoys me. We are not in Japan, girl. Don't laugh like a school girl, dude.

She took a step back as I entered our house, "Sorry, I was sort of lost. You're so prett-"

"It"s okay." I mumbled, as I dropped my duffel bag on the floor and went to the kitchen to check on mom. She was chopping vegetables, I waved at her and beamed, "Hey."

She stopped from chopping vegetables and sighed, avoiding to look ay me, "You're back"

I groaned, "I am. I'm here because I want to know when did I have a step-sister."

"Joey."

"Mom, you can't just keep a secret from me!" I took a step forward and crossed my arms on my chest, "I thought you'll tell everything what happens in your life. That's so unfair. I tell mine. I talk to you when I'm sick. I tell you everything."

"Joey, calm down and let me explain." She looked at me, looking calm as always, while me looking like an angry bird. I sat on counter as she wiped her hands with a clean towel, "First of all, you look terrible."

"Wow, thanks." I said with a sarcastic tone.

"Second, I adopted her because you weren't here with me for 5 years." She said as I raised an eyebrow at her, "I wasn't happy those days, Joey. I was lonely. Because. You know. Your father."

"Oh." I mumbled and grabbed her hand, "I miss dad. I miss him."

"We both miss him."

"But why did you adopt her again? For what?"

"Happiness. Avoid loneliness. You didn't come home for 5 years, I felt sad and lonely. I wanna feel a daughter's love so, I adopted her 3 years ago." She sighed, "Her name is Blue, her real name. She's an orphan, of course, and her parents died."

"But why didn't you tell me?" I asked and I heard footsteps from upstairs.

She rolled her eyes, "Because you might feel betrayed, do you?"

"I am. Sort of." I let go of her hand and played with my keys, "It's alright. I'm okay. I was just over-reacting a bit so. I love you so much, I missed you." I said and hugger her tightly. I miss her hug.

We pulled away and I looked at my side, she was there. She's so pretty (like me), her hair is goals, and she's my step-sister. I opened my arms and ran to her, hugging her tightly. So, this is what it feels like having a sister. We pulled away and Blue looked at mom, "Have you told her?"

I looked at mom and crossed my arms on my chest, "Tell me what?"

"Oh, yeah. Jonah's mom contacted to me yesterday and she told me Jonah and his youngest son are going to a camp for kids and pre-adults, or adults like you. So, I signed you and Blue up!" She clapped her hands and jumped up and down.

Jonah? Why would Jonah go to a camp? He's 24! He's pretty mature.

Maybe he wanna get eaten by whale, that would be cool.

I snorted, "You know that I hate camps! Jonah and I used to go on camps and it was horrible, mom!"

"You forgot to mention him."

Him. Oh, shit. No.

"Who's him?" Blue asked, looking confused.

"Joey's-"

"Mom. No. Please." I rolled my eyes and put an arm around Blue, "I'll go with her, if you'll stop talking about him. It's irritating as hell." I smirked as mom nodded and beamed.

"Okay, so, Hi I'm Joey Devlin. You can call me Jo. I'm your sister, or your step-sister, Blue. Like the color." I said as introduced myself to Blue, "Nice to meet you, Joey. I'm Blue McVey-Devlin, your step-sister."

"Okay. Cool. So, I'll be camping with a color. Great!" I said as I clapped my hands, "Let's cook!" Blue chuckled as we went to mom and helped her cook.
