What the fuck were you thinking? You ask yourself as you stare into the innocent blue pancake's deep black eyes.

"Maybe if you stare at it long and hard enough it'll burst into flames," Devyn suggested and you hadn't realised she was back already.

How she was up this early, willingly, you weren't sure. She was gracious enough to offer to get you breakfast this morning.

"You're right," you sigh defeated.

She placed the coffee cup on the nightstand next to you as you smiled up at her graciously. Truly you were thankful to have someone to talk to.

"Then why do you look like you're about to put a hex on anybody that looks at you the wrong way?" she raised an eyebrow as she sat next to you.

"Don't give me any ideas, I've seen enough on tiktok," You smiled weakly.

You weren't in the mood to eat breakfast but the coffee seemed inviting enough.

"Listen," she started, leaning against your dresser. "I know we basically just met but, if it helps you can talk to me."

You smile at her sympathetically as you stared down at the brown coffee lid that read the exact amount of sugar and milk you wanted in your drink.

Love was never good for anything but pain. Why was it worth the risk? Simple, it wasn't. Every love ends in sorrow and heartbreak. Heart break I've experienced over and over. Of guys I've never even dated.

But that wasn't something you could easily explain to Devyn, especially at 6am.

"The fake date went great," you reassured her, "I stayed up too late that's all. Not a morning person if you couldn't tell."

The lie came easily, perhaps because it wasn't exactly a lie. Just withholding the truth, which you felt bad about but you didn't think she deserved to be vented at, especially in the morning.

"I got a Squishmallow out of it, so it really did go well. We had fun, I think we'll be good friends," you add looking up at her.

She wasn't entirely convinced but she accepted your answer, to your relief. Maybe if you could convince her, you'd convince yourself, too. Maybe then the feelings will fizzle out. It's better that way.

"Well, if you go on another, tell me all about it." She offered "but for now you gotta get on set."

"Sure," you grab your coffee standing up, "seriously, thank you." You say with a soft smile, "I'll catch up with you later."

"No biggie, I look forward to it." She wove with a genuine smile before disappearing behind her room door.

You sighed, taking in your last breaths of privacy and peace before opening your door to face the day. You turn, giving the squishmallow one last glance before pulling your door behind you. Ready to face the day? As ready as you'll ever be, anyways.

Today you were shooting another scene with Jack, this time the theatre scene. Which meant back on your head the wig went, with a trusty white button up identical to the one you wore the day before.

The coffee helped somewhat to fill the empty pit of regret in your stomach. Back to acting. Back to normal , or some semblance of it.

Before long you were in makeup. You tapped your index finger on your coffee cup as you waited patiently, part of your brain tugged at you, wondering what Jack was thinking right now.
