Then I Remembered

I walked to the door and opened it. I stepped outside. It was bucketing with rain. I couldn't remember anything. I turned around, took a few steps back and looked up. There was a pub infront of me, called 'The Late Night Inn'. Strange name for a pub. I walked through the red door. I stepped inside. It was dark. I turned on a light. No one was there. I walked upto the bar and sat down. I looked in a mirror behind the bar, and saw that there was a huge scar down my face. Then I remembered. I was running. Running from something. But what? I remembered tripping, the dripping blood.  I remembered seeing the pub. Called 'Darkened Corner', with a black door. Then I spoke to the man, and then the bar tender. Then I left.

"Where did everyone go?" I said aloud to myself. At that very moment the light went out. I turned and ran to the door which was still open; as I got to it, it slammed shut. I turned around. I saw a glow behind the bar. I ran to it, hurdled over the bar and... Everywhere was dark again. No glow, but the door was still closed. I jumped over from behind the bar and sat down. Dark. Silent. I sat there for a while. I had nothing else to do. I sat still facing the door, trying to remember what I was running from. I turned back to face the bar. Stood behind the bar was a man. Not the same man as before no, a different man. I could only make out an outline but I could tell he wasn't the same man. He was only a metre away; normally, I would've freaked out but, I was too tired and confused to be scared.

"Can I help you?" the man said. He spoke gruff, low pitched. He walked into the light and I could see that he was a very large man in about his late 40's. His skin was red and pastey. He wore a black suit, a matching hat and dark sunglasses. He spoke with an american accent, New Jersey I think.

"Who... who are you? Where did you come from?" I stuttered.

"Who I am doesn't matter. What you need to know is that you need to run. It's coming for you. It's closer than you think. You need to have eyes in the back of your head. You're not safe. You will never be safe. You need someone to help you. I... can help you".

"...What? What's coming; from where? How can you help me? Help me with what?"

"This information is for you to find out in time to come. What you need to know right now is that you need to turn around..."

Slowly, I turned. There was a figure. A black, shadowy figure, stood about 2 metres away from the door. It approached me. Slowly. I turned and looked at the man. I looked back and the figure, which was now about a metre away.

"Can we help you?" The man said to it.

The creature lifted it's arms out sidewards. There was flash and it disappeared, but left something in it's place. A letter. I picked it up.

"Let me see" the man said. I handed it to him. He began to read it.

"What does it say? Who's it for"

The man read

       Artie James Williams

I know where you are. You will discover me soon. I am closer than you think. I will get to you. I am unable to see you now but I am dangerously close. You won't be safe until you find me. I can be found in only one place [See map enclosed]. I can only be seen in one place. I can't get to the people in your world. There is a portal. The only way from my world to your's. There is nowhere to run. I will haunt you forever.

"That's it!" the man said".

"That's it? That's it?! This creature is out to get me, and I don't even know what it is. It says 'Your World, as if it's not from here. An alien? And where is it.. where is this portal?"

"201, Wreckage Road. It's about 6 blocks away"

"Okay then. Let's go!"

"You sure? I mean it could be a trap"

"Well-"

"How about you sleep on it? You look like you need some rest"

"Yeah, sure. Okay".

I lay down on the sofa built in against the wall. Slowly, I fell asleep.
