Heart

Our ribs are a cage
Made to keep the wild thing
We call a heart
Locked away.
It feels and falls without
permission
It beats relentlessly
It doesn't listen.
It puts itself out there
And cracks when it gets hurt
Then does the whole thing again
Like it could never get hurt.
Hearts are idiots
They're at war with the mind:
But the mind rules the body
But the heart beats the time.
They're both necessary
I just wish my heart wasn't
So foolish
Running out at every chance
To get
