                                              Chapter 3 - Escape [2]
                          EREN'S POV
                          We were on that boat for about an hour as it carried us downstream to freedom. We would be safe from the titans at least for now. I noticed Krista still had the large splinter in her leg and I decided to do something about it.  I carefully took her leg and stroked the injured area softly. She whimpered but didn't turn away. She nodded as I grabbed hold of the piece of wood and pulled it out swiftly.

                          She bit her lip and was on the verge of crying but didn't. Something stopped her. Maybe she had no tears left after what we just witnessed. 
                          The wound immediately started bleeding after the piece was taken out. I ripped of the sleeve of my shirt and wrapped it around the wound. 
                          Krista grabbed and pulled me into a hug. She didn't let go for the rest of the boat ride.
                          EREN'S POV: Future (After Escape)

                          It wasn't what I was expecting. We escaped the nightmare of Shiganshina and managed to find our way past wall Maria's inner guard. It didn't feel right. We were living off scraps that the military fed us. The aged and elderly were sent on a suicide mission to kill off the titans that still swarmed Shiganshina. It was disgusting to see that the military still paraded and drunk as if nothing was happening. They showed no respect for the lower class even though it was us who kept them fed.
                          Mikasa, Armin, Krista and I spent our many woeful days in a barn wondering what we were going to do in the future. Hannes was with us taking care of our every day needs like water and shelter. He had managed to stockpile bread and other food for us because he was in the Garrison. By the time we ate the food, it was either stale or squished but we took it. Times were tough but we were tougher. We wouldn't let famine take us down when so many had died to save us.
                          The day came when I decided to join the military. I needed a way to vent my frustrations and find a possible way to slaughter the titans who took my life away from me. Mikasa followed me and because of that Armin and Krista decided it was best to also join the Military.
