Sleep Solution
Ten hours a day
working minimum pay.
Getting home late
to kids who haven't ate.
Do the chores;
are your arms getting sore?
Take a sip of booze.
You have nothing to lose.
Then lay in bed,
wandering thoughts in your head.
Worry about tomorrow.
Might need money to borrow.
Then you remember,
it's almost the fifth of septemeber.
The bills must be paid;
payments must be maid.
Little projects here.
Bigger projects there.
Then you remind yourself of the solution.
Doctor gave it to you,
Your Resolution.
Over to the cabinet you go.
Your pace is fast;
your face aglow.
You have the answer.
The pill is the elixir,
The Fixer.
Take one it says
but two is always better.
Then sleep reality away.
Forget until the next day.
Life never seems to give you a break.
Problem after problem,
it gives you aches.
Go to the doctor to get fixed.
But he only adds another prescription to the mix.
You don't mind;
you've become an addict.
Pill after pill, reality slips away,
barely knowing the time of day.
Muddled more and more are your thoughts
Are you even yourself? Your kids think not.
And then one day reality really ends.
It was something no one could apprehend
Now you lay six feet under
All because of a little blunder
Too many bills. Too many pills.
But hey, there's still one left. Want it?
