A cold but warm breeze felt way to good despite the amount of deep shit I was in. Literally. Not the shit part but how the deep part, ya know?
The overgrown moss was soft, brushing my back while I scooted backwards to make sure I wasn't in the open. My left ankle throbbed as if a dozen needles were plunging into my skin and twisting itself from the inside. The more I moved the more I could tell my ankle had to be busted open. I feel down a ravine that was in the middle of a street. I really thought I could make that jump to cross it, but even my high jumps can't get me that far. I looked around to see what I could use, or at least if I was alone down here. The constant drips of water dropping down in a puddle next to me, I looked up and saw multiple broken sewage pipes, the drips of water dropping were oddly in sync, it was as if the echoing was in harmony. I was stuck in a trance looking a the water drip, My ears were too occupied by the soft and elegant plops it made while the water ripples spread across the entire puddle.
I was so occupied I couldn't hear
I couldn't see
I couldn't smell
Hell, I could've even smell. But the one thing that I noticed, that one percentage that got me back to my senses of what was Brain-dishing me.
A string of what seemed to be made of water came down one of the pipes. As skinny as spider silk. At the end of the string was a small spider like Ayakashi. A being that's neither human or animal. At least it was just one, but never underestimate a Ayana's Size learned that the hard way. I looked to my left and then my right, my eyes were shooting everywhere all over the place, the spider Ayana's were coming down from the pipes, their tiny eight legged arms and legs pitter pattering towards me in an oddly fast pace. Soon enough, the overgrown moss walls were now overgrown with Ayana. My jaw was left open for a few seconds, I was frozen in shock for a while until one of them managed to pounce on my shoe. I scrunched up my face in disgust and pumped my right leg up and down to try and shake it off. After a few shakes and kicks it squealed while smacking against the mossy wall. I looked at my watch on my wrist to see what time it was, 50 seconds until 5, So why are they out here now? Unless this is the only Ayana active currently. No time to think right now, thinking isn't my best suit anyway. The Ayana's we're crawling faster now, like they haven't eaten in years. Their fingers and claws dug into my pants leg and soon enough to my waistline.
I sighed and gritted my teeth, I didn't want to have to use it now since I can only do it twice a day. I quickly folded my arms behind my head, firmly pressuring my palms onto the soft moss ground and arched my back to to build up some energy. Then finally, I threw myself up in the air even with some of them still attached to me, they were covering the entirety of my lower body, munching on my injured ankle like razors. Still in mid-air I twisted my body in 360 to shake most of them off as I could. When I fell back to the ground I landed on my palms, keeping my body up with my arms as well. It wasn't enough though, the more I got them off of me the more they jump on me, tearing my flesh off like a piece of beef jerky. If I wasn't normal, I would've been dead in five seconds. They covered the entire ground, walls, and the crumbled ceiling. Behind me was a dim light, i couldn't tell if the tunnel was far and wide or short and crumbled. It was too dark to tell, beside that one tiny light coming through the crevice. Whatever, it was the best choice I had to get away from the infestation. Soon enough they'll get up to my face. With my hands still on the ground, doing a half assed handstand I started crawling my way to the tunnel, using my arms as legs like a "clown" I read about that happened in the before. The Ayana's were screeching, crawling after me for more flesh. I looked back as far as I could since my shoulder was in the way to see if they were keeping up speed. Their razor sharp teeth were the size of thick razor blades. Their eight eyes didn't look human or spiderlike, not to mention their human arms and legs, a weird mutation of some sort. For some reason, this whole situation felt funny to me. I just felt the urge to burst out laughing Despite how fucked I might be. Then I really did start laughing. That is until I looked back in front of me to see the monstrous black spine back Ayana. It was the same as the spiders, but bigger. Way bigger. It leered over me as it's throat glowed and rattled as it made a thrilling noise. It's mouth slowly opening, it was big enough to swallow me whole. I had nowhere to go. Behind me and in front of me where no longer an option.
I looked around everywhere as fast as I could, my pupils were glimmering, trying to find at least one opportunity. Then, something snapped. Literally. My foot twisted itself back to normal, making a snap at the end. 50 seconds were up, and I thought I was waiting an eternity. I jumped back up barely before the Ayana could chomp me in time. I jumped on the wall and ran across, stepping and squishing the small Ayana's. The earth-shattering shrieking grew closer as each of its hands clawed the tunnel, using it to move with its mouth rapidly chomping. When I made it back up the small ones were waiting for me, they lunged at me from above. On instinct, I closed my eyes, lowered my head while jumping off the wall, and grabbed An Ayana that was hanging from the water thread. It got a good chunk out of me while I swung myself, one by one. The big one caught up and was crawling upwards as well. It went so much to grab a ledge that crumbled and took down half the ravine with it. Now that there was more light showing, all of them had a molded white color, meaning they hadn't eaten in at least years. No wonder they were on a frenzy. When I plunged myself upward like a slingshot with one of the threads, it lunged with me snarling at me. Before I fell down on the pavement I spun around to face it while looking down at it. It's beady eyes...I could tell it was suffering from starvation. Even if they did kill and eat people, it's not their fault. They have lives too. And I get that.
"Sayonara."
I closed my eyes slowly, reaching my hand towards its forehead. Or what it used to be. My hand flashed a quick bright light, making it close its eyes. And In that moment. It felt like...I lived it's whole life in just two seconds. After the loud thud and the crumbling of the concrete I fell and rolled across the pavement. The cicadas were chirping, getting ready to go to sleep while the crickets took over. I wanted to get up before something else happens again. But I just couldn't, I overdid it way too much. I scooted myself to lay my pack on a pole. The buildings in the area were either overgrown with plants, fragile to the touch, burnt to a crisp, or all of the above. Ducks quaking in the far right, a whole pond was made due to a huge dent that covered a variety of the road. This wasn't a city anymore. It's just a place that was made in the wrong generation at the wrong time. I could've died too many times, I haven't met a single person since I was born. I don't remember my parents or how the hell I managed to live this long. In every dire situation I get into, I always live somehow. I hope I meet someone who's not trying to eat me someday.
"Someone who means so much to you will always be with you, no matter what the two of you went through."
I whispered softly. I didn't know why I said those words but...It was as if that Ayakashi said that to me.
