Lookumz
Lookumz was having an existential crisis.
The deep seemed endless. The pain seemed infinite. The war felt surreal. The quiet felt uncanny. Their incredibly appalling situation wasn't something that you would dream of in your average everyday world.
Why did this have to happen to them? Why did it have to happen to them out of all the people in the world? He didn't understand, he wouldn't understand, he couldn't comprehend the meaning of this.
And yet the key to everyone's survival seemed to be to work together. Lookumz remembered all these people from his first day on the server- everyone was trying to steal everyone else's stuff. But that was just Minecraft, it was all fun and games. Now, not so much. Some were trying to make the most of it, others had run away. But what was the purpose of all this? Who had done this to them, and why?
Lookumz was so lost in thought he didn't notice Loaf had sat down next to him.
"Hey," said Loaf, causing Lookumz to almost jump.
"Oh, hi," Lookumz said, but he avoided eye contact.
Loaf looked at Lookumz with concern. "Are you okay?"
Lookumz looked at Loaf with wide open eyes. Should he answer the question? Should he tell the truth, or make it seem like he was fine? Was it a good idea?
But Lookumz had known Loaf for the longest time, and among all the campers, the person he trusted the most. A friend whom he trusted.
Lookumz took a deep breath before answering. "No."
Loaf
"No."
Loaf looked at his dear friend in surprise- he wasn't expecting this response. Usually it was just an "I'm fine." But here his friend was, willing to admit he wasn't okay. He- he didn't know what to say. So he put his arm around his best friend. Lookumz returned the embrace.
It felt like they would never let go. No words needed to be said. Loaf knew that just having someone there for you, was enough.
It was the saddest happy moment they'd every experienced so far.
After about what felt like an eternity, Lookumz then tore himself away from the embrace. "Let's not do that again."
Loaf laughed. "Yeah, or else they'll think we're being gay."
"Just friends, please," Lookumz said with a sleigh chuckle.
"Yeah," Loaf looked at Lookumz's dark brown eyes. "Hey, look, you don't have to tell me about it, but you know that I'll be here for you if you need right? I'll be right here."
Lookumz smiled and nodded. Loaf smiled back. In this world, having even just one friend was more precious than owning a stack of diamonds. Because they would be there for you in your most difficult moments. In the times you felt down. In the times when you have no idea what to do.
They would be there.
