"Family?" I asked my eyes wide.
He's trying to get inside of my head. If Mistress Thendiar has taught me anything it's deception.
"Don't be afraid of me. I simply need to ask you some questions.
I stared at him blankly.
"Are you aware of a man named Jean Val Jean?"
Something tugged at the back of my mind. I heard that name before... but where?
"No, I can't say I have... sir." I told him. I had never told a
lie before. But... Technically it wasn't a lie because I didn't know where or when I had heard that name. For all I know my mind could be tricking me.
He got real close, staring into my eyes.
"You sure 'bout that Aurore?"
"Yes. Should I have heard of him previously?" I asked as innocent as I could.
"No, I suppose not." And he once again looked into my eyes. "What about... Cossette?"
Cossette. It seemed like ages ago that I was separated from my dear sister. Of course I've heard of her. But something told me this man was not family. And I didn't want him to touch my sister.
"Not that I can recall at the moment, sir." I said. I hope he didn't notice my lip quivering.
"Prehaps if you spent some time alone you can recall." I sensed anger in his voice.
