In honor of Ja and his piss poor decision making. Chapter 19 :)
"Again, Ja?" Ja's mother, Jamie, swatted the point guard on his neck. "All this money and you don't have a clue what to do with it."
Ja ducked away from her, sitting Kaari down. "My fault, Ma. I ain't know I was on camera."
"You a lie. I seen you look right in the camera." She said, pulling her phone out. "Now you grown and all but I tol' yo' ass about waving these damn guns around."
Tee Morant put a hand on his son's shoulder. "There are people that would die to be in your position and you not being a good role model for young kids."
Ja fought the urge for a snappy comeback and just let them lecture him. He didn't understand why he needed to be a role model for everyone because everyone could be role models for their own fucking kids.
Nonetheless, Ja understood how he was wrong.
One quick car ride with D-Tap before TeNiya's graduation party and Ja was in the media once again. He was waving a gun around again but once again, it didn't belong to him.
Ja didn't mind the public attention because he'd been in the public eye since he was in high school, but he'd rather it be for other reasons. Like breaking another Grizzlies record, or even maybe unknown girl friend's that work at Follies.
"Whea' ya' girlfriend at?"
The point guard adjusted Kaari's shirt, avoiding his mothers eyes. "Malia not my girlfriend no more."
Jamie placed her hands on her hips. "Why the hell not?"
"Something happened and I end up not tellin' the truth about it so..." Ja shrugged. "We coo', though. I'm finna go pick her up from work. I dropped her off."
Ja's mother shook her head. "You need more of her around you. Not a big media girl, school teacher, and she don't mess with that gun business."
The guard decided not to make a comment about how Malia had 2 guns in her apartment for protection. Jamie liked Malia even though she'd only met her once, and Ja intended for it to stay that way.
Tee, Ja's father, took a seat on the opposite couch. "How long they suspending you for?"
"Til' further notice."
Ja was being honest when he said he wasn't trying to be seen with the gun. D-Tap ended up not knowing that Ja picked it up and turned the IG live in his direction. It was an honest accident on both their parts.
It was just very unfortunate.
Ja didn't stay at his parents house for very long. His only mission was to drop off Kaari. He had to fly to New York tonight to meet with the commissioner of the NBA but before that he was hanging out with Malia.
The positioning of their friendship confused Ja but he'd rather be confused than to not be in contact with her.
"Temetrius Jamel Morant." Malia said as soon as she got in the car. "What the fuck is wrong with you?"
Ja sighed, squeezing the steering wheel as he looked over at her. "Befo' you start cuttin' up on me, I gotta ask you a question."
Malia just so happened to read about Ja's suspension on Twitter and had been holding her anger in the whole time she was tutoring. The boy was just so stupid.
"What?" She finally said, crossing her arms.
"I got suspended and shit like that and I'ma have a meetin' and shit." Ja explained. "You wanna come with me?"
