Luke removed his sword from the girl while smiling. He had done it, and he hadn't even needed to kill Kronos. She had done the dirty work for him, he had just needed to stab her.
She dropped to the floor once he pulled his weapon away, and closer her eyes. Oh well, she wanted to rebel, that was fine for him. He'd tear her eyes appart so he could see the light dissapear from them, always. To remind everyone that he had won. He had won.
The girl bled on the carpet, a permanent painful expression on her face. Good, she needed to suffer. They all did.
The perfect heirs that ran away while they had to stay there. It wasn't fair. At least he was getting revenge.
"Oh, I nearly forgot!" He thought out loud, and grabbed the girl's arm. With his tongue stuck out in concentration and his sword in hand, he started spelling in her skin "C-O-W-A-R-D"
He laughed, blood pouring from the A, splashing on the floor.
"Not so brave now, huh?" He mocked at the dead girl.
Suddenly, he heard a sudden noise that made his turn on his tracks.
"GET AWAY FROM HER!!"
***
As soon as he realized Hazel had ran away, Frank got out of the room, trying to figure out where she had ended up. Her brother and cousins ran with him."Have you seen where she went?" Her brother, the short boy with dark hair, asked.
"Shut up!" He yelled, because he was trying to listen. He would never tell, but he had a... power, a gift of some kind. The reason he was branded all along. "I hear her, come on!"
So they ran across the halls, swords at ready, crowns in hand. Well, the heirs had their crowns in hand, he just kept running while he tried to keep listening.
Until Nico, Hazel's brother, stopped dead in his tracks. He had his eyes wide, and then started sobbing.
"No... No, no, NO!" He screamed, covering his ears with his hands "NO!"
"Nico, what's wrong?" Percy crouched next to him, but the boy pushed him away.
"No! No..." He kept saying, shaking his head as if he was trying to push something away.
When Jason understood, his expression darkened.
"She's gone, isn't she..." He looked down as tears started running down his cheeks.
"WHAT?!" Frank asked, not believing a word.
But the only anwer he got were the sobs from the three boys, who didn't run anymore.
He wiped his eyes, which were somehow pooling with tears. He couldn't stop now, he couldn't give up.
He started running, leaving the heirs behind, and he kept running. He ran until his lungs burnt, and even then he kept running. He only stopped when he entered a big room. The throne room.
The whole place smelled like blood. There was a body, king Kronos. He lay on the floor as dark blood flowed from a wound. Dead, most likely.
There was also a blond boy holding a sword and walking close to something. A body, a girl. When he reconized it, he screamed.
"GET AWAY FROM HER!!"
The boy turned, but he didn't loose a second. He grabbed the sword in the floor, Nico's one, and hit him in the head with the flat blade. He couldn't even utter a word before he fell to the ground.
Frank tied him up to a throne and ran back to Hazel as tears threatened to spill again. A horrible wound in her chest was still bleeding, and there were small cuts on her inner arm. He gently held her wrist, and found no pulse. Her skin was cold as marble. He placed her arm on his lap before completely breaking down into sobs.
"No, Hazel, please... Don't leave me like this!" He cried, doubling over in pain.
He couldn't control his magic when his emotions were strong. In an instant, he found himself being a bird, a big golden one that seemed made of flames. But even then he kept crying, because the person he loved most in the world was gone.
But, right then, he saw smoke. He looked up, back to his human form, and saw that it came from her arm. Where there was blood before, now it seemed to go back in time, leaving only thin white lines as scarring.
Wait... She was... healing?
His eyes were wide open. Of course! Phoenix tears held some kind of magical properties, but he had never even tried such a transformation. Yet it was a chance, more than any other thing he had.
So he took a deep breath, turned back into the bird and kept crying. It wasn't hard, he was so afraid. He shook and sobbed until the wound under her ribs closed completely, then turned back.
He stroked the spot on her chest. It was fully healed, leaving just a tiny scar. But, even so, she had no pulse.
"Hazel, I love you" He whispered between sobs "I do, I really do. I'm so sorry, so sorry..."
He brushed the hair from her neck and saw it. The W was still burning in her neck.
"You're gone now, but I'll heal you... At least you can rest in peace"
Tears were spilling again. He wasn't even transformed, but they did the trick. The W stopped burning and faded into her dark skin. He kissed the spot tenderly, then broke down once more.
It was so unfair. She was kind, the kindest person in the world, why did she die...? Perhaps they were right, those who shone brighter burnt away quicklier...
Her expression seemed calmer now. He brushed the hair off her face and told himself to stop crying. She wouldn't have wanted that. He was sure she would have just said "Save your tears for when you're really gonna need them"
But he couldn't help himself. He wiped his face, his last two tears landing in Hazel's cheek. He couldn't see, but they ran down her face, her neck and settled on the middle of her chest. They faded into her skin with a small sparkle.
Frank heard a noise that broke the painful silence. He couldn't believe it, but then heard it again.
Hazel sat up quickly and started coughing, as if she was choking. Then she lay back down and opened her eyes, her big bright golden eyes.
"Hey, Frank" She smiled, and lighed up the whole wide world.
"Hey, Hazel" He said, between his tears, not believing his luck.
For the love of his life was back.
