It was dark and stormy, the road was wet but that didn't slow me down. I was late. I knew I needed to have my story straight. Work was busy, yeah yeah, a last minute meeting with a needy client. "Or you could just be honest" a small voice told me. Flashes of red and white-hot screams and panicked voices clouded my vision. WAIT. No, not screams. LIGHTS! headlights barreling toward me! Not screams but a HORN! I swerved narrowly escaping the head-on collision. I took a few deep breaths in an attempt to calm myself. I was nearly home, just one more street and I was there. The lights were out... odd. I glanced at the clock, it was only 11:30pm "He's probably sitting in the dark... waiting" the voice sneered at me. My heart started to pound it was so loud I swear the neighbors could hear.
I exit my car slowly, pushing the door closed softly behind me. Tiptoeing up to the porch I strain my ears for any sounds coming from the house. Silence. I ease the door open, wait why's it unlocked?! My heart starts to beat faster now. I enter the house my breathing shallow. The house is still... too still, I ease my way down the narrow hallway towards the living room. Empty, no sign of him anywhere. The kitchen is clean, not a dish in sight. I can smell something slightly rotten. I glance towards then mudroom expecting to find the trash overflowing again. I shuffle closer holding my breath. Not the trash. I feel puzzled now. I head up the stairs, pausing at the top listening. I don't hear anything but the smell has grown stronger. It's coming from the study down the hall. I try to ignore the stench as I move toward the door. It too is unlocked, I push open the door and switch on the lights. I see the source of the smell immediately, a young blonde woman lay in the center of the mahogany desk. Her face pale with a terrified expression frozen upon it. Her limbs hung haphazardly off the side, she was completely naked. Her large breast had several small holes in them, leaking bits of silicone. I shook my head chuckling a little as I moved closer. "Someone forgot to clean up" I muttered to myself. There was a note pinned to her flat stomach , "Sorry honey I couldn't wait for you to get home. You know what to do. I owe you one - Love Dale". He owed me more than one, I moved quietly cleaning up the space around her. Finally finished and satisfied with my work I wrapped her up in plastic, and drug her down the steps to the backyard. I dropped her unceremoniously into the pre-dug hole before returning inside for a hot shower.
I was exhausted when I finally climbed into bed. I could feel my eyes trying to close themselves, but something was nagging me. "The basement guest dummy" the voice chided. I groaned pushing myself out of my warm bed. I somehow made to the basement without falling down the stairs my eyes barely open. I paused just before entering the small room in the back grabbing an apron and gloves. There was a long metal table in the center of the room, surrounded by soft blue walls with little cartoons hand painted at the bottom. Several surgical tools hung on the wall to the left and a 75 inch television hung on the right. I grabbed the remote from the small storage shelf beside the entrance. I flipped through a few random channels before settling on my favorite crime show- ironic I know. I moved toward the table looking down at the crying man who lay strapped to it. I smiled softly at him, brushing a small tear from his cheek. "Now, now no need for tears dear" I clucked my tongue at him, mimicking my mother's soft voice. It was the voice she used when she was angry just before she would- I shook my head trying to clear my thoughts. I hummed a mindless tune while I surveyed the tool wall in front of me. I wanted to take my time but I needed to get my answers soon so I could get some sleep. I selected a simple scalpel before returning to my guest. I pulled the gag from his mouth while placing a finger on my lips. He nodded quickly relief washing over his face. Poor Fool. "I'm going to ask you some questions" I said softly. "Tell me the truth you live, lie to me and-" Without warning I brought the blade down quickly giving his stomach a swift cut. He yelped in pain and surprise but quickly became quiet again.
"Now that we understand each other....let's begin" After a few long grueling hours, my questions were finished and my mess cleaned up. Unlike my husband I didn't leave a mess; I did however leave the hole to be filled in. Worn out as I was I still had to return to the shower to clean up before I could head to bed. It was well after 3 am and Dale was finally home, "so much for a warm welcome" I thought climbing into bed next to him. His snoring was light meaning he hadn't been sleeping very long, I was tempted to wake him but thought better of it. I could tell him about my findings tomorrow. Before long I too was sleeping peacefully.
