Destiny's eyes were aching from looking over so many reports. She wanted to look at the clock but she knew just from the lack of activity that it was late. Kids needed mommy and daddy to tuck them in and read them bedtime stories, too bad she didn't have anyone at home waiting for her. It was almost comical a female police chief married to her work especially, since her misogynistic ex-husband wanted her to be a housewife. A 24/7 baby making maid, and mother. Their marriage lasted all of two years a miracle really. Thankfully she kept her maiden name at work, it made the separation even smoother. But now here she was a pile or reports and no one to run home to at the end of the day. That's when the phone rang, the only call that could be coming this late had to be related to something dire or drunk. Destiny reluctantly picked the phone hoping it would be something easy she had to deal with. "My sister is missing" a panicked voice came through the phone. Destiny was wide awake now jotting down notes as quickly as her hand would allow. This was the fifth missing persons call she'd received this month alone. A few days after a spouse or partner would turn up dead and money missing from all accounts. Rich men and their trophy wives going missing along with millions of dollars and half of the missing now dead. It was too much of a coincidence but there was nothing linking the crimes. Not  even how the person was killed. Everything was random; drowning, stabbing, torture and gunshots. The only connection was the money. But eventually the money had to run out eventually, so where were the others? What happened to the missing wives? New husbands maybe or boyfriends? Destiny wanted to call her officers in and get started right away but the late hour made her rethink it. "Tomorrow" She thought "We start tomorrow".

Sun. Birds chirping. Something smells....heavenly. Coffee and pancakes with eggs and bacon! My growling stomach pulled me from my deep sleep. "Breakfast in bed my love" Dale's deep silky voice purred. I smiled sitting up my eyes transfixed on the trash was carrying, "I don't suppose this is for last night?" I arched an eyebrow at him smirking. Dale wordlessly placed the tray on the bed before placing a kiss on my waiting lips. "Yes this is a START to my apology for last night", I sipped my coffee waiting for him to continue. "Mhmm?" I took a bite of pancake, it was fluffy and light the buttery syrup had a hint of cinnamon sugar as well. Dale smiled a sign that meant "wait and see". I took my time enjoying my breakfast while he rubbed my feet, I was so relaxed I almost forgot to tell him about last night. "I got the bank info" Dale's hands slowed as he looked up at me. "How much?" I took another sip of coffee stalling like a game show host building up suspense. "Oh just four hundred-thirty five billion" I said causally flicking invisible crumbs from the bedspread. My eyes slowly moved to my husband's shocked and delighted expression. Words seemed to have failed him for a moment. "Have you-" "moved everything from the account? of course" I smirked watching him gape at me even more surprised. Dale removed the tray from our bed before climbing in on top of me. "Well my queen... I must reward your hard work"

"So" I said slowly pulling a clean shirt on. "Where were you last night?" Dale sighed, uh-oh, I knew that sound; it was the sound that lead to a long story. I sat down preparing myself for a long story. "I was stalking our next victim" That was quick... I nodded slowly mulling over my next question "What's on your mind?" Dale asked his eyes wondering my face, "You started without me" I said chuckling lightly. "You were late" he said a hint of suspicion in his tone; he paused looking at me expectantly. CRAP! I knew I shouldn't have asked, now it was my turn to fess up. "So?" Dale said his fingers tapping. "I had to drop a body and silence a witness" "You were seen?" he asked. He wasn't angry just irritated. "Yeah, but I was careful, mask gloves, oversized clothes...everything" "Who saw you?". I took a breath, " Some homeless junkie, I bought him plenty and helped him shoot up" "Is he dead?" I nodded. "Good job, next time let's drop the body together" I nodded in agreement allowing the silence to encase us.
