Chapter 53

Antarctica

I stepped into my class, my friend Swaziland walked right next to me, yes, I knew his new name was Ewaniti but I continued to keep his name as Swaziland in my own mind.

"Hey Antartica! Antartica are you listening?" I looked down at Swazi who stared at me. I let out a long breath and nodded.

"So how was your weekend?" I bit my lip, My weekend was fine. How was yours? I thought what I wanted to say as I signaled the words.

"Oh, that's pretty good, my weekend was long aand exhausting. Thank you for asking, Ant." He paused a minute as he wiped his hands on his shirt.

"So, how are your grades looking cause mine are not it-" I let out a really quiet laugh that was barely audible.

'My grades are about as fine as I am going to get them. I have all A's besides for in pre-calculus.' Swazi watched my hands as I moved them into each symboled language.

"Okay, I understand most of that but some parts I didnt get..." His dazed eyes slowly trailed up to meet my own.

"So you said something along the lines of; 'My grades are as good as I am going to get them

Then something about having all A's then I caught except and pre calculus." I nodded, he understood the main points of what I had been saying so I didn't need to teach him.

"Yes! I am so good at this!" Swazi celebrated with a smile on his face just as the teacher came into view.

'We have a substitute teacher again?' I sighed. CAR was our teacher once again, she didnt seem in the mood either.

"Antartica! Ewaniti! Sit down now!" I perked up as my name was yelled out in an angered voice. Swazi had almost the same reaction, he shot up the darted towards his seat.

I slowly walked towards where Swazi had gone, he sat in his chair and stared expectantly at the board infront of the class.

"Antartica since you want to take your good ol' fashioned time, answer this question. What was the last battle of World war one?" I stared at CAR, of course no one had told her of my mutness, so I expected a reaction.

"Let's see how long it takes for her to remember!" Swazi elbowed me in the arm as an uncontrollable laugh emitted from him. I smiled at him then turned towards CAR who stared at me intently.

'I know you know that I had nothing to do with the world wars, so stop bullshitting me and ask me a question that is actually relevent to me' I signed everything as fast as I could so that hopefully only Swazi could understand me, and he obviously did because as soon as I stopped he let out a long string of harsh laughs.

CAR stared at me, trying to understand what had just happended, Swazi was laughing his ass off, I was staring back at CAR, and the students around were either laughing, silent or talking to each other.

"Ewaniti, what did he say?" I heard Uganda speak as she looked over at me, her sunset colored eyes watched me expectantly.

"He said..." I looked over at Swazi, he couldnt say what I actually said, I'd get in so much trouble. Swazi watched me, waiting for something to say.

'Just say I said that Imperial Japan's dissolve ended the war, I dont know! If you know what actually ended it say that!' Again, I quickly signed and Swazi smiled.

"He said that uhhhh Japan's dissolve ended the world war. You know Imperial was the last of the axis to keep fighting." Swazi sounded so stupid, he elongated his words for no reason. I let out a strained laugh of air.

CAR turned towards me, her eyebrows furrowed in annoyance and anger.

"He has the right timeline, but that is middle school learning. You should know this, Antarctica." I jolted to my feet, and threw out my arms Aint no way she thinks I need to know about this war.

'Shut up CAR, I actually have no need to know about any wars fought between you countries. It is actually illegal for you to fight with me and hell, the world wars were your problem not mine.' I heard Swazi sigh beside me, I knew that he knew that he'd have to translate all of what I had said, and he was not up for that.

"Ewaniti?" CAR's gaze turned over to Swazi who hung his head in defeat. I sat back in my seat and placed my hand on his back, gently patting him.

"He said something about not needing to know about all of our wars then that it is illegal for us to fight him anyways." I bit onto my lip as I thought about my situation. It sucked that I had to rely on someone else to translate what I say everytime I said anything... I felt like a helpless child, Why do I have to be mute? I looked over at Swazi who was saying something, but I failed to hear him.

'What? I cant hear you.' He let out a sigh and shook his head.

"Are you okay?!" He partially yelled in my ear causing me to flinch backwards from the sudden loudness.

'Yes I am fine just... you know, just thinking' He nodded as I let my hand rest in my lap. Why am I like this? Why cant I be a normal country like the others...? I sunk in my chair.

'Swazi, do you think I'll ever be able to comunicate without you?' I noticed the slight hesitation in Swazi's voice before he responded.

"I know you will, plus ... you know" I cocked my head to the side as his voice went out again.

'Swazi, you know I am partially deaf, you have to speak loud enough for me to hear you.' his eyes widdened in partial shock, he knew this he had simply forgotten or something.

"Oh, I uh, I said that I know you will be able to speak, plus the kids in SL will be able to talk to you without me..." A small, pitiful smile painted across his face in his attempt to make me feel better about myself.

"What happened to your hearing aids..?" He questions as I felt at my ears. Damn it, that is what I forgot... how'd I do that..?

'I forgot them somehow... I mean I woke up really late, I kind of just threw everything on.' His face contorted into a look of amusement

'Yeah...' I looked over at the wooden door to the classroom and resubmerged myself in my thoughts.

Some one will be able to understand me...
