Chapter 10.
"Where is he''? Xavier reached the abandoned workshop that he had converted into his workplace. A place where he could personally interrogate his enemies. Marcus was sitting on the sofa, nursing a glass of scotch.
"Basement". Marcus tipped his head and drowned the glass before standing up. "Let's go". He moved to the basement with Xavier, cracking his knuckles for the awaiting fun.
2 hours later.
"I knew it. I fucking knew it". Xavier roughly patched up the bruised and mutilated person, still alive, and gestured his men to deliver the man at the given destination. He didn't want to kill him, because he knew, with the information he managed to get, the said person's boss would kill him themself.
"I have called Benji, he told me that he saw a few people mapping the area. According to the initial reports, he has seen Sean too. I think it's time to meet him in person". Marcus told Xavier on their way out. Xavier only hummed. He was in deep thought. Someone from inside was tipping him. And he had to find the person soon.
"I will be leaving now. Keep in touch okay. And listen, Carl is in my place for now. I cannot trust her living alone, especially when that motherfucker is sniffing around". Xavier told Marcus who nodded before going to his car.
Xavier sped to his home where he knew Caroline would be sleeping soundly. In his home, in his bedroom, in his bed. The thought of her in his place was so satisfying that he felt himself smiling like a lovesick in the middle of the road.
He parked his car and opened the door by pressing the code in an urgency. He was dying to go and lay down with Caroline. To touch her, to be closer to her. To feel her. He still remembered how wet she was for him when he had to leave. He turned and got startled to see Caroline sitting in the living area. The exact place where he left her.
"Carl. What happened baby? Why didn't you sleep? Scared? Something happened"? He cupped her cheeks, looking straight into her blue eyes.
"That's what I have to ask Xavier. What is the hell going on? It's the second time that you have to leave in an urgency and that is not a pleasant one to say. I have seen you getting angry and furious. I don't know what is happening and it's confusing me.
What are you hiding from me Xavier"? She asked, staring directly into his eyes. He wanted to say something, anything to calm her but he knew nothing would do.
"Let me get changed and grab a drink". He rubbed his forehead and left upstairs when Caroline nodded.
He took five minutes to change into sweatpants and went downstairs to find Caroline curled on the couch with a tumbler of vodka for him on the table. He took his seat and pulled her in his arms to feel her closer.
"Me and Marcus, we deal with the supply of construction material to our clients. Internationally too. Marcus gives me the plate numbers of the trucks and I make sure my men deliver them safely.
For a couple of months, there had been some illegal stuff going on across the country and borders. Drugs, ammunition and human trafficking are a few to mention. Sex rackets are active and that has put our shipments at risk.
That night I received a call because the FIA is involved now. Sean Cameron is the crime investigator. He believed our men had something to do with the illegal stuff. That's why I had to go there to clear the air because my men don't have anything illegal with them. They cooperated fully but that fucker is suspecting.
If he was any officer, it wouldn't have been any issue, but he has his own group of underworld people. That's the reason I was worried about your safety. I hide it all because I don't want to drag you in the mess because Marcus had not told Angie and he forbade me too.
