Summery: I want it to be abit of a surprise.
Kind of shot: I guess it has a bit of angst BUT has fluff nonetheless.
(This is actually a bit of vent now that I think about it xd-)

Stone's POV:
They. They. NOT HIM! Why, why can't people just use the right ones when I feel like them? It is such a pain to be a demi-boy. Yes, even though I'm still on the "male" spectrum, I just don't feel completely to that side. Some part of me just wants to be neutral, not female, not male, just neutral. Even if people know I'm a demi-boy, they still only use he/him, it's like my neutralism isn't even acknowledge...which most probably isn't. Only a few people know I'm that, but none of them address me with they/them pronouns, ever. Some days I prefer to mainly be called he, some days they, and some days one of the two of em.
Anyway, I'm just at the lab waiting for the doctor to call me for something. Just then, he called me out for something.
"Stone, could you be a gentleman and get me another latte?"
I froze. Gentleman...it ringed on my mind. I'm going by they/them only today, meaning that I also didn't really wanted to be addressed anything that sounded too masculine and gentleman was just too masculine. I bit my tongue so I wouldn't correct him. I wouldn't have corrected him anyway, I mainly bit my tongue in reminder that "I should just accept it and be a man and not some freak". Those were the exact words that people such as my parents have told me. I forced myself to get up and and nod in understanding.
"Be right there sir."
As calmly as I could, I walked out of the lab and into the kitchen to make the latte. When I got to the kitchen, Metal was there drawing and coloring on the table. I walked up to it and pat its head before going to make the latte.
"Hello there Metal, how are you?" I said in a sweet tone.
"Good! Question, pronouns today?" Metal Sonic said in beeps that represented morse code.
"Ah, they/them only."
I forgot to say that. Yes, even though everyone may not acknowledge it. I was saying everyone as in just humans. Metal somehow found out a couple of months ago and just asked for my pronouns every single day which made me extremely happy, in fact, the first day it asked me for them, I cried a bit from happiness. Although it doesn't ask them around Robotnik or anyone, only when we are alone. Metal knows I'd rather keep it between the two of us than the doctor finding about it even though it gets the urge to correct anyone that missgenders me.
"Alright!...Stone...Has the doctor missgendered you yet?" Metal asked quietly in beeps.
I lowered my head as I finished the latte.
"...Yeah, although it's whatever..."
"No it's not and you know it."
Metal clenched its fist as it pounded the table. Metal gets quite protective about this, it knows this means a lot to me to the personal level. So they take it as such, personal. Metal then got off the chair it was sitting on and got by my side and hugged me.
"I'm sorry Stone, but I'm doing it. I'm going to correct him if he missgenders you again."
My head snapped towards it as I almost dropped the latte I made.
"Metal!...I..."
But then I just lowered the latte and sat there.
"Stone...You know this is what needs to be done. You will never feel comfortable here is we don't. But hey." Metal beeped a bit sadly then tugged on my pants.
"I won't let anything happen, alright? I promise everything will go well."
I softened my eyes...I'm so glad I had someone like Metal, I don't know what would I do without it.
"Alright...I trust you..."
~~~~Some moments later~~~~
No one's POV:
Stone and Metal walked down towards the lab where Stone needed to deliver the latte which its contents were moving around because of Stone's shaky hands. They weren't sure about this. What if Robotnik called them a freak? What if he just didn't acknowledge it and just told Stone the same thing so many have told them before? Metal noticed Stone's shakiness and held onto their pants with one hand.
"As I said before, It will be alright. I promise." Metal beeped as he made a gesture which tried to show a smile.
"Alright..." Stone said, taking a deep breath and opening the door.
There was Robotnik working on his desk as always. Stone set the drink on his desk and stood by the doctor. The doctor noticed, took the drink, and took a sip of it.
"Agent, a gentlem-"
"Person." Metal interrupted.
Ok shit. Stone began to shake. Metal was actually doing it, it was correcting Robotnik.
"What? I was just saying he-" Robotnik then got cut off again.
"They." Metal corrected again, beeping a bit more louder and commanding.
Metal looked at Stone to notice their very visible shaking. Metal took one of the agent's hands and rubbed it with its robotic thumb in attempt to calm them down. Robotnik got up with a questioning look, Stone visibly shrunk in fear of the sentence they thought the doctor was going to say.
"They, you were saying they what?" Metal emphasized when saying they.
Robotnik was still confused and bit taken back when something clicked in his brain. He looked at Stone who looked scared out of their life.
"Stone..."
Robotnik slowly walked up to him. Giving a quickly gaze to Metal that told it that it was safe to let go of Stone. It did as it thought and let go of Stone. Robotnik took the hand that Metal was holding and rubbed it with tenderness. As he saw tears prickle Stone's eyes, he wiped them off and cupped Stone face, giving them a soft stare.
"Dear..."
Stone looked up at him, tears running down their cheeks. Robotnik tenderly placed his lips on Stone's. Giving them a long, sweet kiss. Stone was in to much shock to respond back, but Robotnik didn't care. When the both separated, the doctor let go of Stone's hand, now cupping their face with both hands.
"Stone..Please, next time, tell me. I don't care that you go by they/them. As long as you are my adorable, lovable, and bubbly coffee bean I don't care and will only support you." Robotnik said as he hugged Stone.
Stone was getting so emotional that they hugged back and cried more on his shoulder. Metal soon joining in the hug to give them more comfort.
"I love you no matter what. You hear me?"
Stone chuckled.
"Alright...thank you..."
"No problem Stone..."
