ALEXIA'S POV

«So?» we all ask Laia, while she's on speaker on my phone, eager to hear what do to before her and Aitana come to my house.
«We're going shopping, you definitely have an hour, perhaps more if we find a football shop» she whispers back. «She's coming, see you later.»

She ends the call, leaving us wondering how to decorate my house for Aitana's surprise birthday party. The only few things we could put together in such little time were a few banners from my earlier birthdays, along with a homemade cake to make things more intimate.

«Well, let's get to work» Mapi sighs. «Bebé, are you helping Jana in the kitchen?»

The two dark-haired – Ingrid and Jana – leave the sitting room and head to kitchen, while the rest of us have to actually start decorating.

All the girls are here, which makes this birthday a way to bond as a team more; Aitana is really everyone's friend, so it's only fair that everyone has showed up. Luckily no one is in a bad mood, and it shows immediately thanks to the light chatter filling my living room and the bright, careless smiles on the girls' faces.

«Patri, ponte música!» Mariona shouts, while looking through some boxes labeled "fiestas" to find the right things to put in my living room and make my grown-up apartment less serious. (English: Patri, put on some tunes!)

A reggaeton song starts to blast out through my speakers, when Fridolina, Lucy and Keira roll their eyes and start complaining tirelessly about the song choice.

«No more of that, please» Fridolina chuckles, annoyed.
«Yeah, let us show you what real music sounds like» Keira adds, taking Patri's phone and putting on "Sweet Caroline".
«How come you hate our music? You don't hear Asisat and Caroline complaining about the music choice» Irene asks, seriously confused.
«To be honest, I hated it when I first joined, I just... adapted» Caroline exclaims.

Asisat agrees with her, and a discussion about music starts, making me, Mapi, Marta and Irene the only few people working to decorate the space; Mariona and Sandra occasionally give us a hand, but everyone else has found a topic interesting enough to stop working and discuss instead.

«Hey Frido, could you help me?» I ask her, trying to reach the doorframe.

I am trying my hardest to put up a banner, but I'm still not tall enough, not even on my toes; Fridolina, on the other hand, is a Swedish giant, and since she also has a big heart, she helps me at the first sign of struggle.

«Sure.»

She takes the birthday banner from my hands and sticks it above my head, then a deep silence falls in the room, putting an end to all the discussions and disagreements about our music choice.

«It says "feliz cumpleaños Alexia"» Mapi raises her eyebrow disappointed, crossing her arms.
«This is from my 10th birthday and it's the best I could get in such a short time, so cállate.» (English: Shut up.)
«Can we at least put a... patch or something to cover your name? It makes me sad to just look at it» Lucy frowns. «Keira, give me a hand.»

They get down on the floor and start writing "Aitana" on a piece of paper, then ask Fridolina to put it in front of my name on the big banner.

«You could have at least made it less glittery» I complain. «She's not nine.»
«It had to match the style of your original banner, so shut it» Keira snaps back.

After about fifty minutes of work, my living room looks more like the setting of a child's birthday party than one for a grown-up like Aitana, but I am not even gonna try to complain: they asked for my permission to turn my place upside down, and I agreed despite knowing the absolute hell they would turn my apartment into, so it would be pointless.

«Ay Mapi, me vas a ayudar a limpiar, ¿no?» I make sure, already slightly annoyed and freaked out about my poor house. (English: Ay Mapi, you're gonna help me clean up, right?)
«We'll see.»

Facepalming myself in my head, we hear a shout coming from the kitchen, followed by a slight chuckle and some rustling sounds.

«You okay?» Lucy asks the two bakers, without daring to enter the kitchen.
«Si.»
«Jana might have dropped some flour.»
«How much flour?» I take a deep breath, trying to keep my cool.
«Some.»

Too scared to take a peek, I just let them work and call Laia to see where her and Aitana are.

«On our way over.»
«Thanks.»

Everyone starts hiding behind – or under – my furniture, then I turn off the lights and wait for Aitana and Laia to ring my doorbell.

«Hey, Laia told me you had to give something» Aitana says, once I open the front door.
«Yeah, I wanted to give you your birthday present. It'll be a minute, come in.»

As soon as she steps inside my house, Mapi turns on the lights and everyone jumps in front of her, screaming the loudest "surprise!" I have ever heard.

«AWW MIS AMORES!» she smiles, covering her mouth with her hands. (English: AWW, MY LOVES!)

We all hug her and sing happy birthday to her, then Ingrid and Jana come in the living room with the cake.

«Chocolate cake for the birthday girl» the first one chuckles, lighting up the candles.
«Thank you so much. You didn't have to do this, really» she thanks us. «I love you all.»

She blows the candles and makes a wish, then the party actually starts when Patri puts on some music and everyone starts dancing and drinking.

At the end, I don't really care about the conditions of my house; seeing everyone get along so well and Aitana getting the loves she deserves is the most important thing to me, so I let slide the hundreds of glitters on the couch and the few alcohol stains on my pillows: everyone seems the happiest they have ever been, joking around and telling each other funny stories, so I can't really complain.

«Ay, take this» Lucy smiles, handing me a glass of tequila.
«Oh my god, make me start with something lighter, like a beer or something...»
«Where is the fun in that?» she chuckles. «Guys, who wants to see Alexia completely wasted raise their hands!»

Everyone's hands immediately go up, but I am still unsure.

«La puta no sabe como divertirse» Mapi smirks, knowing well that a challenge will convince me enough. (English: The bitch doesn't know how to have fun.)

With a provocative smile, I tell Lucy to drink the glass herself, then take the entire bottle in my hand and chugging tequila in front of my screaming teammates.
