The beginning of a change

Through the window, Wei Ying watched the heavy rainfall fall with vengeance outside his hotel room. It rained all night long, and it was still raining with stubborn obstinacy. Wei Ying loved the rain. Wei Ying would have found this rain romantic if only it hadn't inconvenienced him in such major way.

Wei Ying was outside the city, staying at the hotel closer to the beach as his clients had wanted a beach wedding. This was the perfect weekend for the wedding as the forecasts were clear. But yesterday, suddenly, the sky changed its tune.

Wei Ying checked his phone to find frantic messages from his client and his team. The wedding was supposed to be this afternoon, outside on the beach, but the rain had thwarted everyone's plan. That's fine. Now, Wei Ying just had to sensibly think his way through the problem. But first, he needed a coffee.

It turned out to be a crazy, hectic wedding, but not the craziest wedding he had ever executed. Firstly, he had to convince his clients to trust him. Then, he had to charm the hotel manager- which wasn't enough. So, for the next several minutes, he stood there bribing the hotel manager of all other clients he would be bringing to the hotel in the near future- which thankfully worked, and Wei Ying got a big discount on a ballroom that would now host the wedding.

They were an hour behind their schedule but in the end, everything came together perfectly. Wen Qing, his best friend and the caterer, was perfect as always. Wen Ning, the accountant and the right hand of his sister, was efficient as always. Granny Wen, the professional floral specialist, was magnificent as always.

"I have always wanted a larger-than-life kind of love. I have always wanted the 'I can't live without you, if not you then nobody else, I will wait an eternity for you' kind of love. And now I'm standing Infront of a man who had given me all that and more......" The bride's vows echoed through the room.

Wei Ying teared up even though he was the one who had written the bride's vows. A few days ago, the bride had come to him asking for his help with her vows. Wei Ying had always wondered how it would feel to be the recipient of unconditional love, though he doubted he would find it himself. Regardless, it was wonderful to watch other people find their true love. He really loved his job.

"Wei Ying," the bride, now slightly imbibed, came rushing towards him. "Wei Ying, thank you for the wonderful wedding. You saved my wedding. Thank you,"

"You're welcome," Wei Ying responded shyly.

"The wedding was so romantic, Wei Ying. You must be such a romantic person. Your life must be so romantic all the time," the bride went on, now holding his hands.

Wei Ying didn't want to tell her about those lonely nights he had slept wishing there was someone who would hold him tight. Wei Ying didn't want to tell her about those microwave dinners he ate alone every day. So, he just smiled and gave a neutral "Hmm,"

"Come dance with us Wei Ying," Bride said, pulling him by his wrist. And Wei Ying did just that. He danced until the music faded.

Later that night, inside Wei Ying's hotel room, Wen Ning poured a drink and raised a toast. "Cheers to another successful job well done,". Granny Wen had already retired for the night. So, Wei Ying and Wen Qing battled through their exhaustion and cheered.

Wei Ying woke up late, skipped his breakfast, grabbed the largest cup of coffee he could buy from the nearest coffee shop and headed off to his work.

Wei Ying's office was situated on the third floor of a slightly dilapidated, nondescript, red building next to Yilling Road. Inside their floor, there was a decent amount of open space which served as their break room, plus as an open work area for both Wen siblings, who sat in front of their respective computers facing one another. They had also carved a corner for Granny Wen, who was their receptionist, florist and everything in between. There was only one tiny room next to the toilet, which served as Wei Ying's office. Wei Ying's desk rattled from the force of the toilet flush every time someone used the toilet.
