Bottles and brushes cluttered around my bathroom sink while I oh so carefully placed two green colored eye contacts in my eyes. The ride back home yesterday didn't sit well with me at all as I continued to hide my condition from the outside world. Not many people know about my condition, only the fact that I pack a lot of make up on my face, which suits me well. The way I see it, the less people that know about my condition, the better. After I shaded my eyebrows a dark color, I stepped back from my mirror and gave myself a once over to see if anything was amiss before I step out of the house. Nothing was out of the place, but I still clicked my tongue in slight disgust at my appearance before I walked out of my bathroom. Seeing as it was still early out, I decided to make my way into our ginormous kitchen to fetch something to eat.
Another thing that most people don't know about me is that I love to cook. So I guess I was too into my work when I heard a loud noise erupt into my ear drums.
"MORNING SIS!"
Frying pan in hand, I whirled around only to see my sister who in turn gave me a tired smile enter the kitchen. I clutched my heart that was slowly returning to its normal rhythm and glared at my twin sister. Yes I have a twin sister named Addilyn whom fortunately did not have the condition that I have. Lucky her.
"JESUS YOU GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK!" I yelled back at her. My sisters tired smile turned into a sheepish grin.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." She said while making her way to one of the many cupboards that housed a lot of her favorite cereals. I can never understand why she loves eating those things considering that they are bland and disgusting to eat.
"How can you stand eating those?" I asked her while I watched in horror as she pour herself a bowl.
"How can you not?" She asked.
"Oh, I can give you a few reasons..." I trailed off as I sprinkled some pepper on my spinach and cheese omlet. Once that was done, I shoveled my omlet on my plate and sat right next to my sister. Not a moment later that I sat down, the door bell rang.
"I'll get it." Addilyn said. She got up and placed her already empty bowl in the sink and walked over to open the door. I didn't need to peek over the kitchen door to know who it was because I heard my sisters familiar squel of joy that she always makes when her boyfriend named Jackson Overlandor comes to pick her up. I ignored their muffled voices and continued to eat my food while internally praying to what ever diety might have the grace to actually listen to me that Addilyn wouldn't be bringing him in here. Don't get me wrong, I love my sister with all my heart and I am happy for her that she is dating someone.... But Jackson and I are in bad terms. While he is nice to my sister and hasn't cheated on her, He is the one other person that is not inside of my family that knows about my albinism and He is a bit on the superstitous side of things. I found that last part about him the hard way when we first made our aquantances. I woken up on a Saturday that afternoon from all night studying for one of my finals on monday and made my way to the kitchen completely make up free but I soon stopped in my tracks when I saw my sister sitting right next to him in the livingroom. I must have been loud while stepping onto the stairs because both of them looked at my direction and oh did he gave me the dirtious look ever. Luckily my sister didn't see his face because she was sitting infront of him.
I also remembered how he slid away from me in disgust the moment my sister walked out of the livingroom to get something. The immediate rejection from him stung a little considering that he never even took the chance to get to know me first but I learned to brush it off and continued to live my life as best as I could, fortunate for me though that both Addilyn and I go to a private school.
I heard the familiar shuffle of feet coming closer and closer to the kitchen. Great, I guess the gods wanted me to suffer this morning. I tried to act nonchalant when the door finally opened and out stepped my sister in the arms of a surfer looking dude that I knew was Jackson. I almost stiffled a laugh when I saw the struggle of emotions on Jacksons face when he saw me. It was the look of both disgust and fake happiness battling on his face. However, my sister Addilyn didn't see it when she kissed his left cheek and detangled herself out of his arms. "I'll be ready in a second okay babe? In the mean time, you can hang around my sister!" She beamed a smile between both him and I. I think I can say the same for the both of us that neither of us wanted to hang around each other but we kept our cool and Jackson sat on the table on the other side of me, far enough to show his secret distaste of me but close enough to show my sister what a good guy he is which suited me just as well.
"Please be quick about it, I don't want to be late like the last time." He said to her. Translation to me: I don't want to be any where near her anymore than I have to.
I daintly sipped my orange juice.
Translation to him: I second that opinion.
Meanwhile, Addilyn gave a slight laugh at what he said (which wasn't at all funny) and thankfully walked out of the kitchen to get dressed.
Jacksons nice guy falselleto dropped the moment she walked out of ear shot and gave me a dirty look. I returned one back to him full throttle. He leaned forward, I leaned back with my arms crossed against my chest. It became some sort of show down of a staring contest and neither of us was backing down.
After a few moments of agressive silence, he spoke. "You're a disgusting defective human being." He said to me.
I rolled my eyes at him. "Yeah? And you're a two faced son of a bitch."
He narrowed his eyes at me. "You're lucky I love your sister, other wise I wouldn't be talking to you at all."
I was about to retort when we both heard the kitchen door open once more.
"Hey, I'm back!" Addilyn said cheerfully. She was dressed in a black and red checkered skirt and pressed blouse, standard private school uniform and all. "Now that didn't take long now did it?" She asked Jackson with a smile on her face.
Jackson returned her smile. "No," He said, "Not at all. You all ready to go?"
He stood up and began to lightly push my sister out of the kitchen. "Yeah but wait one second." She said to him. "Can Maddison join us as well?" she asked. Jacksons whole body tensed up a bit and I think I almost had another heart attack. Jackson tolerates me just as much as I tolerate him but there was no way that he would ever let me near his car. Not even when it was a life and death situation. "Wel-" He began but was interupted.
"There's no need. I can walk on my own and besides I needed to pick something up at Coffee Seed before I go to the school anyways." I fibbed. Addilyn looked sad at me but I shrugged my shoulders in a-sorry-but-it's-urgent-shrug. Right behind her, Jackson looked relieved at my response but soon tried to look sad once my sister turned to his direction once more. Two faced indeed. I thought to myself.
"You sure?" She asked again.
"Yeah, go on." I said to her in an encouraging tone of voice.
"Okay, well see you there I suppose." My sister said uncertainly as she walked out of the kitchen and left me behind. A part of me felt sad that she didn't press any further but I ignored it as I continued to go about my day once more.
