Charlie wake up

Part 3

The ambulance pulled into the bay. Tom leaped out of his car, after parking it in the closest space. Fumbling with his wallet, he paid for a parking ticket and locked his car. 'This is taking forever' he mumbled to himself.  Charlie was still in the ambulance, receiving fluids. He rushed down and was let inside the ambulance, waiting for someone

A tall, brunette man came up to the ambulance. Tom locked eyes with him, as if to say 'if you dare mess this up I will end you.' The guy was clearly used to people like this as he carried on.

'Hello, I'm Dr Michael Comer. I can take over from here.' He had to nurses stood on each side of him, one short, mid forty's and female, the other in his thirties and male. He spoke with an Australian accent, and had a transgender pride pin on his NHS lanyard. 

'Hey I'm Sam, sir your friend needs you to be strong, ok? Your in good hands. Mike is a great doctor, if you just come with us, we can make sure he gets the treatment he needs.'

I nod, and he pats my shoulder. At that point I realise I should call tori. I follow them into a room, and Charlie's waking up. 

'What's happened?'

'You overdosed.' Says the female nurse. She hasn't spoken before, and she has a voice that wouldn't be out of place as a Disney protagonist. 

He looks like he's going to have a panic attack. 'Call Ben' he squeaks

'You broke up with him' I say

Ben is his manipulative ex boyfriend. Benjamin hope is one of the worst people on the planet. I have recovered many things he's done. I've had to call the police on him, and Charlie still wouldn't break up with him. Eventually tori talked some sense into him. At last. Tao, Elle, Isaac and Aled also tried. Tori he listened to though. Thank god for tori, or I don't know what would have happened to him. 

'Oh yea' he said

'I'm calling tori' I say

He gives me a horrified look as she picks up

'Hello?' She says

'Hi. Your gonna have to speak to your brother. Anyway we can switch to video call?' 

'Sure      ?' She says, a little uncertain.

'CHARLES EXPLAIN.' she demands 

He does. He trusts tori more than anyone. 

'Oh Charlie....' 

They talk until my phones about to die, and I plug it in.  They talk for even longer, and her husband, Michael, appears.

'Hey babe, the kids are asleep. Wanna watch tv?'

'Can't love. Tell you later.'

'Alright babes. Love ya.' 

Micheal and tori have a 6 month old son and  a 12 week old puppy. Micheal is a successful small business owner, and tori does the financial side of the business. They make pride products and sell them. Tori does the marketing, Michael does the making packaging and sending out of products. 

Eventually charlie drifts of and I have to go home. The house feels empty without Charlie. I try to sleep but that's an impossible mission. Eventually I go to my friends place. 

'Hey Tom got ur text!' Says Sunil. His roommates Georgia, Pip, Roony and Jason are in the living room, watching a documentary. They'd graduated a few years back, but decided it was better to stay roommates. 

'Yea so sorry' 

'No worries mate.'

We all fall asleep mid documentary, and when I wake up it's time to drive to the hospital.... And reply to the hundred missed calls from some of Charlie's friends. Mostly Tao.
