"Hey Jennie, you can call it a day. We'll finish up here and close the store. It's supposed to storm tonight and I don't want you getting caught up in that."
Jennie nodded to her manager, drying the last dish in the sink, and stacking it with the others.
The day was tiresome.
She hadn't expected so many customers; especially on a Monday.
After grabbing her bag and clocking out, she'd started off on her usual route home.
It had gotten dark incredibly fast.
Maybe it was just so busy she couldn't keep up with time.
Jennie sighed, pulling her knitted scarf from her bag to wrap snugly around her neck.
The wind had started to pick up, only a bit.
The smallest breeze was enough. She wasn't a fan of the cold.
She had been walking down the alley for awhile now - a sudden sense of unease washing over her.
"It's just because it's dark. You're ok, Jen.." Jennie whispered to herself, continuing down her path.
Of all the times she'd taken this route home..
Why was she so nervous now?
The thunder began to creep in suddenly.
She scaled the side of a building to keep herself from straying. This alley was incredibly dark.
Never again.
Never again would she work another late shift without any safer transportation home afterwards.
"Ah!" She yelped, feeling the tip of her shoes hit something. She breathed a sigh of relief after successfully keeping herself upright.
"What was.."
When she kneeled down to inspect what she'd almost tripped over, that same uneasiness began to take over.
Shoes..?
They didn't look old enough to just throw out though.
"That's... odd? Did somebody lose their shoes?"
Her gaze shifted through the darkness - her anxiety peaking.
Noticing something lying nearby, she cautiously approached the figure - heart sinking when her eyes settled upon what was there.
Jennie quickly backed away, scared and panic-stricken. She considered running away but something inside her compelled her to stay and do something, or try to.
Taking a deep breath, she decided to take a closer look. It was then that she noticed the tell-tale puncture marks on the body.
The silver badge, stained with crimson lying next to the head.
She swallowed thickly fishing out her cell phone with shakey hands.
A small shift from beside her.
She stopped - her trembling fingers hovering over the touch pad.
"... Ah.. How unfortunate. I didn't really feel like carrying two of you."
She turned slowly, eyes wide and mouth agape.
It all happened too quickly.
A handful of her silky, black locks were grabbed, and yanked harshly, exposing her glistening throat.
The cool tip of metal pressed into her skin.
Her lips quivered, gasping.
Tears quickly pooling around her eyes.
