POV Cato
I wake up in an unknown room in an unknown bed and start panicking. I then remember what happened the day prior the battle and the slaughter in the mud. My prince tackling me from my horse and the ensuing struggle in the mud. the pure rage on his face and the words spoken between us and me succumbing to my wounds.
I realise that someone else is in the bed. I look over and see Aethelstan naked as the day he was born sleeping. He begins waking because he feels me waking and disturbing the bed. I get out of bed and walk towards the window to look out of it. I glance into the corner to see my armour hanging on an armour stand. I look out the window at the city below and feel arms wrapping around my waist.
"You should get back to resting," Aethelstan whispers. I relax into his arms.
"I can't you know that once I'm up in the morning I can't get back to sleep you know that already," I say as I turn round. He kisses me on the lips before smirking.
"I know I know, Do I have to make it a command" he replies smirking. "I've missed you Cato" he continues.
"I missed you too my prince" I return the kiss before flopping back onto the bed. Aethelstan walks to the door and requests food from a passing servant.
The food is brought to the chambers quickly and me and Aethelstan eat.
"How is Prince Ambassador Konstantin?" Aethelstan asks.
"On the last night, we had together he asked after you and demanded I take care of us both, my prince however his father has recalled him to his realm" I reply with in solemn remembrance.
"Of course he was, he's an only child" Aethstan murmurs. "I cannot wait for all three of us to get back together" Aethelstan adds.
"I know my Prince I know," I say.
POV Prince Ambassador Konstantin of the Kingdom of Suerthin, sole heir to the Konstanti Dynasty.
My father has recalled me back to Suerthin so I don't die during the civil war that's broken out in the largest empire in the known world. I'm travelling from the capital to the port city of Seabarrow. I'm passing through the so-called traitorous and loyal regions multiple times. So much so that I've asked Father if I can remain in the capital as it'll be far safer for me there. he declined my insight and so I have to travel home. I'm wearing a gambeson given to me as a gift by Prince Aethelstan and Lord Cato with both their house colours on and I'm wearing a cloak with mine own house colours on for the return journey.
Two battalions of Suerthin foot guards and four squadrons of armoured knights and heavy cavalry as my escort to Seabarrow. that's 2,000 infantry and 600 cavalry. the safest route to Seabarrow involves going near the siege of Dohemina where both my partners are fighting on opposite sides. for the first part of the journey, we travel alongside the army of Emperor Theodric III as they travel to the Siege of Dohemina.
three days into the journey we hear of how the defenders sallied out of the city and gave battle capturing many imperialist lords and officers in the process. So many Officers and Lords were captured in one day that the siege was rendered ineffective and now they await reinforcements. stories were told about how Prince Aethelstan fought lord Cato in single combat and ended up capturing him personally. I inwardly smirk knowing what probably really happened and decided to spend a day or two observing the siege against my father's best wishes.
After another two days of hard marching and we arrive at the siege. I order the Suerthin Camp to be away from the Imperialist camp and have its own fortifications. This is promptly done. I make up my mind to sneak into the city that night to see my two partners. After dining with the Emperor I slip out into no man's land and cross the bridge to the redoubts. I'm ordered to halt and state my business and I do. my reply is given by a voice I recognise very well talking to the sentries on duty.
