Losing a crow hurts. Even if he only knew them for a day or two, Phil got extremely attached to his feathered friends.

Losing one of his kids? Even one he only knew about two months? That was the greatest pain a parent could ever feel. And Phil was lucky to not have that happen to him.

Until now.

The avian could feel another emotion join the growing pit of grief in his stomach.

Anger. Pure anger. He knew this wound wasn't caused by Karl himself, it was caused by another.

And god dammit, Phil was going to hunt them down until his own dying breath.

Sapnap looked like he held the same sentiment.

One of his crows cawed.

Phil looked behind him.

Disappearing into the shadows, was a face half covered by a plain white mask, the mouth visible and giving a self-satisfied smirk.

Dream.

That. Fucker .

"I'm sorry." Karl felt himself getting shoved forward.

Instantly, he felt hands grab him, slam him face first into the ground.

"Well well well, what do we have here?" He could smell the alcohol on the speaker's breath. Every instinct in his body told him to run , but every piece of training forced him to freeze.

"Here's the money, now don't. Tell. Anyone ," A second voice hissed. He couldn't see the figure, but he could make out an exchange of money to the nice man who was told to walk him home. They gave him a guilty look and turned around and bolted.

Karl couldn't do anything but watch.

"So..." The second person squatted next to where Karl lay, forcing his head up so they were looking at each other, eyes to porcelain mask. Karl could feel the color drain from his face.

Dream.

And Schlatt probably. And drunk, based on his breath.

"I think you should head back to base," Dream looked at Schlatt. "I'll handle her."

"Don't leave her alive," The ram stumbled to his feet.

"I won't."

There was a pause as the drunk man found his way out of the alley before Dream turned back to Karl, who was still on the ground and too terrified to move.

"Good girl," He purred, "It's obvious you still remember how to stand down."

"Now," Dream grabbed his hair and yanked him to his feet. "I'm still not happy that you ran to the Syndicate of all people. You have them all twisted around a finger, I'd be proud if I weren't so furious ."

Karl winced.

"I- I'm sorry," He stuttered, being cut off before he continued with a harsh slap.

"Did I say you could speak?" The masked man hissed. Karl ducked his head.

"So not only did you decide to abandon us, you also joined sides with those Villains ," He growled. Karl ducked his head even further.

"Look at me," Dream roughly yanked the brunette's head up.
