The next day during lunch, I sat at a table with Cece and a few other girls. Other tables were half-filled with mixed genders.
"Excuse me," A familiar voice says. "You're sitting in our seats."
I turn around and start to inspect the huge room. The tables were still open.
"So?" he says. I look at the person who is talking to me and see that it's the new kid holding a tray of food.
"There are other seats available, why this one?"
"An accent..." he whispers under his breath.
"Excuse me?" I say seriously.
He clears his throat, "Because this one has the best view from the window."
"So you want to look at the ocean?"
"Yes."
He sounds like an ass.
"Why can't you bother someone else?"
"Because no one else is as close to the window as this one."
"Well I'm sorry, but we don't plan on moving."
"Is this how you welcome a new student? Nonetheless, a new member of society?"
"What?" I sigh. "You know what never mind. Like I said before, go and be an a-, bother-someone else."
He gets closer and whispers in my ear.
"You better be careful of who you're talking to. You never know who could end up being your future spouse."
I clutch my teeth and continue to send the guy to the ground with one simple hit from the palm of my hand. He causes a commotion by sending his food splashing all over the ground and having people gasp around him. With his right hand, he holds his red left cheek and looks at me like I'm crazy. A crowd starts to form around us while I speak.
"How utterly disrespectful could you be! You pungent piece of man!"
Alfred, with a boy slightly older than him with dark brown curly hair and black eyes with tan skin, makes their way through the crowd.
"Alan..." I hear Cece say but I ignore them and keep talking.
"Is this what they teach you on the other side of the school? To disrespect young women like that? How dare you!" I yell at the top of my lungs, my voice makes an echo in the silent room.
"What is going on?" Alfred Says.
I hear people whisper his name.
"Fatima, is everything alright?" Alan says. I look up to see my dear cousin but pay attention to one thing on his clothing. A white rose was pinned to his vest sweater.
A white rose only means one thing. You've been called by the higher-ups who have chosen a forever partner for you. The rose is to prevent any girl from messing with him since he is already engaged and I don't know to who. That's why he's been distant from Cece. That's why people don't talk about them like they used to. If Cece speaks to Alan with the intention to date him and marry him, she will be taken to detention as a punishment. Probably the place I'm headed to since I did something none ladylike.
Alan sees Liam on the ground, "Fatima, what's wrong with you!"
"Nothing! He just said something he shouldn't!"
"And you did something you shouldn't!"
"Enough," Alfred says while helping Liam up. He moves his hand and pats Liam on the back.
