Raindrops cascaded down from the somber sky, painting the world with a misty melancholy.
It had been a month since Rose had entered my life, a stranger turned roommate, a
mysterious girl who had captured my dreams and now resided within the walls of my
existence. The concept seemed surreal—how a mere dream could intertwine with reality,
bringing two individuals together in such unexpected circumstances. Was it merely
coincidence or a twist of fate? Such thoughts lingered in my mind as I awoke, preparing to
face the day ahead.
Over breakfast, Rose shared her reluctance to discuss the incident that had brought us
together. Sensing her hesitation, I reassured her, "Take your time, Rose. Whenever you feel
ready to talk, I'll be here to listen."
We finished our meal, and I readied myself for university. Being in close proximity to our
home, the journey was short. As I prepared to leave, Rose handed me my coat, wishing me
a good day and safe travels. Her words momentarily caught me off guard, a flicker of
something unspoken passing between us. Lost in thought, I bid her farewell and made my
way out into the rainy day.
Throughout the day, my mind drifted back to Rose, her presence lingering like a gentle
whisper in my thoughts. The lecture halls and classroom discussions seemed distant as my
thoughts danced around the enigma of our connection. There was an inexplicable comfort in
having her by my side, even if we were still getting to know each other.
As the evening approached, I decided to do something special for Rose. I discovered that it
was her birthday tomorrow through a quick glance at her Facebook profile. Determined to
surprise her, I stopped by a nearby cake shop on my way home. The intoxicating scent of
freshly baked goods enveloped me as I perused the delightful displays.
Choosing a delectable red velvet cake, I requested the baker to write Rose's name on it,
along with a heartfelt wish. The baker smiled knowingly and inquired, "Is it for your girlfriend,
sir?"
Caught off guard, I paused for a moment, contemplating my response. "No," I replied with a
slight smile, "it's for a friend."
With the cake carefully boxed and the bill settled, I embarked on the journey back home,
raindrops gently kissing my face as I traversed the wet streets. The anticipation of the
surprise nestled within me, a fluttering excitement that swelled with each step.
As I approached our front door, a sense of nervousness mingled with anticipation. Taking a
deep breath, I pushed open the door, greeted by the warmth of our shared space. The
aroma of home mixed with the tantalizing scent of the cake as I set it down on the kitchen
counter, waiting for the perfect moment to unveil my surprise.
Tomorrow would be a special day for Rose, and I couldn't help but wonder how this small act
of celebration would unfold, weaving new threads into the tapestry of our ever-evolving
connection.
