"It's nice, isn't it?" Life asked, gesturing to the ground below them.

"It is," Death agreed. She peered over the edge of one of Chaos Academy's many balconies, surveying the ground below them. It looked . . . calm. Peaceful. Unchaotic.

Death and Life had taken the anklet to Life's mother, Glory, who had promised to make sure Chaos never got their hands on it again. That was nice, but the really nice news was that Chaos had been removed as the principal of Chaos Academy, which had been renamed Creativity Academy, after the new principal, Creativity, Life's father. In addition, Water, Wind, and Chaos had been put on trial by the rest of the elementals–Life, Death, Fire, Creativity, Glory, and another teacher named Earth–under charges of murder, attempted murder, and the endangerment of multiple children.

"It's weird," Death said suddenly. She looked at Life. "We're supposed to hate each other."

                   She blinked. "We are? Why?"

"You're Life. I'm Death. We're kind of stark opposites."

"We are," Life agreed. "But that doesn't mean we can't be . . . friends." She slipped her hand into Death's. "Assuming you want to be."

Death wasn't sure why she was smiling so widely, but she knew one thing.

                     "I'd like that."

And for that one moment, when Life smiled back, the world wasn't such a bad place after all.
