Chapter 1

"Linda? Max? Where are you?" I ask the moment I step into our home. There was a stillness that I have not felt in a long time. This felt uncomfortable... and wrong.

"Hello? Seriously, where are you both?" I ask again, my voice becoming more demanding and laced with worry. I take a step forward and zip around the house. Papers fly in the wind... paintings rattle on the wall. Where are they?

In the corner of my eye, I see a glimpse of Linda. "Honey, what's going on?" "Mom!" she screeches. "Linda!" I rush towards her, flying towards the fleeting image of her. "Mom! Help us!" Max screams. My head snaps to the left where he now appears. "What happened here?" I ask. "I.. I don't know. We came home from school and-and dad left because he got an alert on his phone. Linda and I were playing videos and her arm started disappearing. Soon she-she was gone. And then I was gone" his eyes are big and pooling with tears.

I notice his hand flickering between reality. "Honey, I'm going to find your dad. We will figure out what is going on" I say firmly. "I love you. If you see your sister again, tell her I love her too."

He nods, and with that he is gone. I immediately pull myself together, ignoring the pain filling my heart. I need to find him. I begin dashing through the city, looking for a sight of red lightning. Nothing... nothing. How is this possible? I take a right turn and head straight for the lab. The moment I stepped into the lab I met with confused stares. "El, are you okay? What's wrong?"

"Where is he?" I ask. "I'm right here honey." I turn around and meet the face of the love of my life. "Bear... the kids. Linda and-and Max they're..." I begin choking on my tears. "What happened? Where are they?" Barry asks. "They're gone."

Silence fills the room. "El.. your arm" I hear Caitlin say. I look down and see myself flickering away as well. "I don't understand what is happening" I say in a panicked tone. "I- I need to leave. This timeline is not safe for me anymore."

"Where are you going to go? What is happening? I-I'm going with you." Barry says, grabbing on my shoulders. "It's okay... I'm going to be with you."

I give him one quick kiss on the cheek and begin my run. Purple fog encases me as I continue running. I've been running all my life, now I am running for my life. I only hope this works.

2023....2022... 2021.. Perfect!

I zip through the portal and land in a familiar setting: Our living room.

"Honey... What was that? Are you okay?" I hear Barry's concerned voice in the distance. "It's m-" I begin to say but I am cut off by a different voice. "I thought that was you," the voice says. Footsteps walk closer to me until I come face to face with Barry and... Who is that?

"Who the hell are you?" the woman asks. "I uh I'm-I'm Eliza. Barry, who is this?" I ask, feeling my eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "You.... Do you know me? I'm sorry, have we met?" Barry asks.

The room feels like it begins spinning. What did I do?

"Is this not 2021?" I ask. "It is. You're a speedster, but I haven't met you before." he says, walking closer to me. "How can you say that?" I ask, hurt laced in every word. What did I do?

"You have 2 seconds to explain who you are or I am grabbing the meta cuffs" the woman says, crossing her arms. "I told you.. I am Eliza. I ran here from 2035. Linda and Max are in trouble Barry, I need your help" I say, taking a desperate step towards Barry. We are now face to face and I cling onto him, needing a hug to calm me through this confusion and hurt.

"Who are Linda and Max" Barry asks. I pull away from him, "o-our kids..."

His eyebrows furrow and he gives a panicked stare to the woman next to us. "I'm sorry, but I don't know you or them. You must be mistaken" he says. "Barry, what is she talking about?"

"I am Eliza Lane. I ran here from 2035 where Barry and I are married. We have two kids, Linda and Max. They disappeared from the timeline, right in front of me. I-I started to disappear too but I used the last of my speed to make a time jump. Are you Patty?" I ask, facing the woman now.

"No... I'm Iris. Barry's wife" she says trailing off at the end. With that and the lack of energy in my body, I hit the floor and the world fades to darkness.
