I'm not sure how to explain my drawing process. Stuff just happens when I'm working on a canvas (;ŏ﹏ŏ) but I'll do my best to explain >:D
1.) Rough Sketch
I don't do rough sketches unless I have time to do so, but I made this last Friday when we had no class so I had time to start the first stages of making the art (≧▽≦)
Rough sketches can really help you see how your art will look like when you get to doing the lineart. I suggest you don't detail your rough Sketch too much since it'll take a lot of time and rough sketching is only used to help you figure out how you want your art to look like 👀
2.) Clean Sketch
The Clean Sketch, like the rough Sketch, is entirely optional. Some artists may chose to use their rough Sketch as a base for making the rest of the art :O I use clean sketches whenever there are more details I have to add and I really don't want to mess it up during the lineart (ー_ー゛)
Sometimes, I color in the sketch. But I don't normally do it since coloring the sketch is usually done when putting color theory in mind. However, I could care less about color theory. In fact, I hate it! (¬_¬")
3.) Lineart
Lineart comes in many shapes and sizes. I guess my way of lineart is pretty normal. However, I like to change some parts of it such as making the inner lines smaller and more transparent while the outer lines are bold and thicker. ( ⸝⸝´꒳'⸝⸝)
For me, I think lineart is pretty easy. Just be careful with your lines! (・–・;)ゞ And I think that the dip pen (soft) is great for outlines! I use it all the time! (❀❛ ֊ ❛„)♡
4.) Flat colors
Whenever I choose colors, I just choose the ones that don't hurt your eyes when you look at them. For example, in my other art, I always use a duller blue and red so that it doesn't look too neon. Otherwise, it'd look really bad... (·•᷄ࡇ•᷅ )
I don't know how to explain it, but it's also good to use colors that look closer to the color you are going to use. Del's hair, for example, is usually seen as red. However, in other art, his hair is actually a vivid, yet dull red. The same goes for his skin. It's not actually gray, It's a very dark blue! :O
5.) Shading + effects
Here's a tip for effects: Duplicate your art on a another layer and use a very strong gaussian blur on that duplicated layer. Then afterwards, set the blending mode of the blurred layer to either soft light or hard light depending on your preference and lower your opacity to your liking. Ta-da! (*˘︶˘*).。*♡
I got this hack from a user on tik tok that I saw while scrolling through Pinterest while looking for Gudetama pictures. 👀 It's a really nice hack and it helps a lot!
Also, after shading, I usually color the outline so it doesn't look too bold and noticable. It's a great method as well if you want a little realism in your art. 👀💛
