With the help of some maids, I get the dress on, and I look in the mirror. He chose it well. His colours- black, white and red. It's beautifully over the top, and I expected nothing less.
(If you wanna picture it properly:))
I spin, and smile at myself in the mirror. Still anxious, I raise my eyebrow at the maids, asking them what they think, and they smile."It's beautiful."
I'd already done my makeup, and I was pretty happy with it, but a maid begins to braid my hair into a fishtail plait. I tale a deep breath, and smile.
"OK. Guess I'll go get married."
Originally, the wedding was going to be held in one of the churches nearby, but thanks to Vessel's well founded paranoia, it'll take place in the hall here. I'm fine with that too - I don't like the idea of being assassinated on the way to my wedding. That'd really put a dampener on the day.
My dad is waiting for me outside the hall, and looks anxious, himself. He takes my arm, and walks with me, and his grip on me is tight. As I walk, I feel all eyes on me, and try not to tear up from anxiety.
Vessel has his back to us. I think it's a tradition, or something, that he's not allowed to look until I'm there. He turns to look at me once I'm there. I can't help but smile. No mask. That must be huge for him. My dad struggles to let go of my arm to give me away, and Vessel glances at him, looking nervous himself. Eventually, my dad looses my arm, and Vessel places a hand firmly on his shoulder to thank him. My dad sits down, but still looks anxious. Fair enough.
"Wow." Vessel mumbles under his breath, and glances at the two rings displayed on a pillow. He picks one up. No priest, but I guess that makes sense. Vessel is pretty much a high priest anyway.
"Gaia." He begins, and takes my left hand. "With this ring, I promise you protection, loyalty, happiness, and..." He pauses for a moment. "And love. I couldn't be happier to call you my only weakness." He says, quietly, but I guess just about loud enough for everyone to hear. I feel my eyes welling up, but stop myself crying. Don't ask me what type of tears they are, because even I don't know. He places the ring on my finger with a shaky hand. I take a deep breath, and place the other ring on his finger. Pretty soon after, he pulls me closer by my waist, and kisses me passionately. I'm shocked, for some reason, but quickly wrap my arms around the back of his neck and kiss him back. As everyone in the room cheers, I feel him smile against the kiss.
"I can't believe you didn't ditch me at the altar." He says, quietly, grinning.
I smile back at him.
"Neither can I."He kisses my cheek, and I watch as people flood out, to what I think is the ballroom, or something.
I glance at my dad, who looks a little less anxious, and my mom, who even looks happy. I look at Eric, and grin, and back at Vessel.
"You gave him an invite."
Vessel nods once.
"I trusted he would behave."Eric gets to his feet, to leave with everyone else, but first, approaches Vessel. Oh, shit.
He hugs him. You know, man hug. Pulls him close and pats his back. Once Vessel gets over the initial shock, he smiles faintly and hugs him back.
My family all leave, and Vessel raises his eyebrow at me.
"That was unexpected.""I thought he was going to hit you." I reply, smiling.
"Me too. I had already braced."
I look around the empty hall, and sigh.
"I guess we should go eat and dance."He nods once.
"I'm sorry it's not exactly a dream wedding. I know they're big rooms, but a wedding in your own house isn't exactly ideal.""It's perfect, Vessel."
He goes quiet, so I speak up again.
"I wasn't sure if you're supposed to get each other presents. But I did, anyway. Wanna come see?" I ask, and he looks shocked, but nods. I take him to his music room, and placed in the centre is an acoustic guitar, and ukulele, which I painted myself. Specifically, white, with his red sigil on them.He picks up the uke, and gently strums it once. He places it down, and hugs me tightly.
"Thank you. I have a present for you, too. " He says, and dashes off. He returns with his hands behind his back, and I tilt my head, confused. He brings his arms round, to reveal hum clutching a puppy that can't be older than 8 weeks. Definitely a German Shepherd."No name yet. He's a boy. Go for it." He says, and I slowly and carefully take the puppy from him. I burst into tears, and Vessel smiles.
"C'mon." He says, and I follow him to the ballroom. There's music, shit tons of food, and a huge cake. I'm a little saddened by the guards by the cake and the food, but I guess its unavoidable. I place the puppy on the floor and let him greet everyone.
