I. AM. SO. SORRY.

This chapter was suppose to go out on Wednesday from around *checks notes* TWO WEEKS AGO??? Well, the chapter ended up being much longer, I got a questionable case of food poisoning, burned myself at work, and had to sit my first psychology exam (A-Levels, for my British readers). BUT we are back and WOW did this chapter turn out better than expected!! But enough dilly-dallying, here is chapter five of Frozen Fire, and the penultimate conclusion of this little mini-arc I've dubbed 'Sylvie's Very Bad Day'.

"It... hurts..." Cindy's voice echoed in her ears as Jade's feet stamped against the floor of the corridor. Just a little faster, and they'd make it, she was sure. "Why..." the voice was quiet, soft, scared. A chill ran down Jade's spine.

"Why didn't you help me?" It was more accusatory, icier. The weight on her back felt heavier, her running more laboured. "Why did you just leave me there?" The voice wasn't Cindy's anymore.

Jade felt a weight on her chest as she collapsed, Cindy falling to the floor, near her. She glanced to her side, seeing the bloodied girl stand and walk over to Jade's body. It stood above her, before placing a foot on her back and pushing down. Jade coughed, a black liquid beginning to sputter out of her mouth.

"You monster–"

Jade's eyes shot open as she glanced around, a sigh escaping her lips. She glanced to her side, seeing Sophie's head leaning against her shoulder. She leant back in her chair, careful to make sure Sophie was still leaning against her side. She closed her eyes, bringing a hand to massage the bridge of her nose.

Another nightmare... She thought to herself, glancing around her. The walls of the waiting room were a bright white, reflecting the intense ceiling lights above. The whole room was spotless, pristine. She wouldn't expect anything else, given their excessively orderly headmaster. Like most Academies, she felt they overdid things in every department.

Instead of uncomfortable chairs, they sat on a black velvet sofa, with several other plush chairs laid out. She could count two other students there, seemingly waiting on unrelated injuries. She glanced down at the coffee table before them, a health manual Sophie was reading dropped haphazardly.

Jade held a small smile, She probably dropped it after dozing off. Somehow anything the girl did was endearing to her. The waiting room was large, she had heard a few students would use it as a quiet place to study. The bright walls were lined with black bookshelves with various health books and manuals, some novels to help pass the time. She half-considered picking one up – she loved a good horror story.

She felt the girl beside her stir.

As she glanced back at her, Jade sometimes couldn't get over just how different the two girls were. Everything about Sophie was endearing, from her golden wavy hair – a cascade of oranges and yellows, much like the rays of the morning sun – to her endearing brown eyes, akin to the dark wood of the hearth, glowing with warmth that comforted anyone.

Sophie blinked, letting out a yawn as she stretched. Jade chuckled quietly, leaning over to press a kiss against the girl's head. Sophie smirked, burying herself once again in Jade's side as the dark-haired girl wrapped an arm around her.

Jade was closer to the full moon that tried to shine against the inky darkness that surrounded it. Her hair wasn't akin to the comforting beams of the sun, but rather the deep black abyss of the ocean. Her eyes weren't comforting and warm, but cold aquamarine that made anyone who initiated eye-contact with her freeze.
