Bells

'MAY ALL CITIZENS PROCEED BACK TO SHELTER, MAY ALL CITIZENS PROCEED BACK TO SHELTER' The sound of the loudspeaker from tonight is still ringing in my ear, I can't sleep. What are we going to vote on, and what will the final result be? I'm not surprised Crx is able to fall asleep in this hectic and chaotic time, he sure needs it though, an eight year old needs more sleep than you might think.

When I wake up, the light from the sun hasn't even reached the surface of proxima yet, which means it's pretty early. I heave out of bed and switch on the radio, its blaring sound immediately blasts on and I jump. The sound must have woken up Crx because he bolted up and glared at me. 'Morning sleepyhead!' I laugh, he groans, shivers and pulls on a jumper. 'What were the results?' my brother demanded, turning to me 'What do you think i'm doing right now, listening to music?' I reply, slowly sliding my fingers across my gold charm necklace. Crx shuffled over next to me and I wrap my arms around his shoulders, 'You know, Crx? Whatever happens to us, don't ever forget that my love for you goes over the horizon, to the furthest star, and back.' I feel his head nodding against my arm as the radio begins to broadcast a voice. 'We have faced a choice. To destroy earth, the last piece of our ancestors; or to protect the planet and flee to

another.' The automated voice says, 'The votes have been filed in and the following are the results. 50% to destroy earth, another 50% to inhabit another planet.' The radio buzzes a couple times, then cuts off.
